Calling all computer nerds- help me watch the Olympics!

Hello all,

I’m in the US for the summer, and in their infinite wisdom, NBC has chosen not to cover the 100m final live. In addition, their coverage is way too American focused, I want to see some variety.

I need to see this race live- I’m not waiting for some stupid prime time showing. I’m pretty sure CBC is showing a live feed on their website, but it is “geo-fenced” so I can’t watch videos on it as I am in the US.

I talked to them, and they said the only probable way around it is to use a proxy site that is located in Canada. I downloaded the WorldProxy toolbar, and it is useless, as it basically only lets through basic HTML, none of the rich media on the CBC site.

Does anyone know a better way around this? Like perhaps a good pay proxy site that doesn’t have bandwidth limiting? I am clueless about this stuff.

I suppose I could just watch it on some of the live TV websites (like myp2p.eu) but I would rather watch CBC coverage.

Any ideas?

T

All I can say is “HAHA”!

Kidding, no idea. But something tells me we’ll have key races here shortly after they are processed.

NBCOlympics.com/video has a bunch of coverage. I don’t know if they will show the sprints live but they do have other events so I’m guessing they might, although they may not as they might not want to “compete” with their own TV ratings… You have to download some software. I did and have watched a few hours and it works OK, although being partnered w/ Megasoft of course it doesn’t work right in Firefox

I’ve been watching the NBC site coverage. It has worked well for the less popular events. I think their site withholds coverage for events shown live on TV, as well as marquee events like the athletics finals. Perhaps they will show the heats, I should consult the schedule or give them a call.

I still want my CBC!

Can one of our fine Canadian friends post the mms:// feed ID when the track coverage begins at 9EST or point to a sopcast channel? Anything? I got to the CBC site via a Canadian proxy but was still blocked when clicking the video feed… am I living in China or the USA?

I think that NBC must have struck a deal with CBC to block the online streams. So the answer to your question is “yes.”

Sadly it looks like CBC is the best option. Hell they have a f-ing channel tonight for mens 100m prelims.

Heard an interesting tidbit from a client yesterday. All the streams into NA for NBC and CBC are coming through Mexico. Carlos Slim strikkes again

So will CBC show the prelims?

yes dude their coverage is 10x better than nbc.

it’s truly a sad day that no one cause help us US guys find a feed for this somewhere

Everytime I try to watch video from CBC, it says video is not available in my area, does anyone else has this problem?

Tamfb,

Cbc.ca/olympics has a channel dedicated to showing preliminary heats today. Check on the site, but you will need a way to get around their “geo-fencing”, as they call it.

Can anyone help with this?

I went to the site and went under “now playing” and clicked on “Athletics - Men’s 100m: Round 1” said video is not in my area.

I thought I was going to get to see it then it said the exact same thing as you…

Yes… any way to get around that “geo-fencing”?

Getting around that is the point of this thread, right? I have tried for about 3 hours and failed. I give up. Like I said, a sad day. Just need someone from canada to post the mms://

horrible, dont know what else to say.

nbc just said they going to show some track now after commercial break

its on right now

yea that was awesome…

lol… indeed. 3 minutes of blissful talk… oh blissful talking it was
