blocks to far back, choppy steps & angles to large?

can having your blocks too far back from the line cause you to drop your first step and make your first 5-10 metres choppy & angles too large?

I had a block session tonight and ive always had this problem with dropping my first few steps coming out the blocks and my body angle being to high… on my last couple of runs i decided to move my blocks a notch forward as i looked at my friends blocks who is about 5’9/ 5’10 (im 5’7) and it was pracitcally the same distance. ( he is 10.8 runner, i am 11.2) so i thought maybe mine needed to be shortened.

anyway to cut a long story short, my block clearance felt alot further and my body angle felt lower and my steps felt complete rather than cutting them short…

thoughts?
