Automatic Sprint Timer - US$165!!!

They are relativley very expensive.

I’m likeing what I am hearing. Can you speak more about hooking up a tochpad. And provide a link to purchase one?
thanx!!

In my University project we had to do some eletronic timing circuit to time a very small interval of time. Of course it was considered a trivial thing in the project because we simply downloaded the circuit and baught the equipment and just put everything together and it was working. !!! It cost us about 5-8 pounds (1 - 1.5 US$)I remember. And we did 5 units in about 30 minutes a unit. 4 for use and one for reserve. it was very simple and small. I thought of doing one for my training on a larger scale. With longer cables and a bigger screen. Then I found my self so lazy. When I thought about it. I found that it would be much better to build a wirless one. And that would be worth it. It won’t cost me over 10 dollars with the packaging I guess. Electronic equipment is so cheap down here in Egypt and every possible piece is there. I might even go there and find old projects. 1000s… and I’m sure I’ll find the idea already done and I could just buy it for a little extra.

At the end of the day I still don’t have one. During practical life and training, you really don’t need one. A stop watch with a decent one who can handle it would be enough… make it simple. And when its about electronic timing I just use the Camera. I don’t want to go training and spend 15 minutes setting up a device and then when I finish I spend anout 15 minutes packing it carfully, and so on. Usually in training you need the differential… Not the actual time. That is the improvement. When you run 11.00 elect and improve to 10.60 elect. Then cool. But probably with hand time you will improve the same fraction. From may be 10.6 to 10.2. So you will know your improvement either way. And when you need a test then just use the camera. And when you start running hand nines then I guess its time to look for a little bit of advancing in the timing.
Take care all

martn, any more info? i like the idea of beeps.

i really want to build one of my own, so ill be checking here for updates

Here is a start, its not wireless but I can show you how to make it wireless.

This unit was first introduced about two years ago. I did purchase one. However, I was unable to get times consistantly from the unit. I sent it back on two occasions for exchange. Those did not fair any better. They seemed to be ok when jogging through to test but were not able to get times when runners were moving or sprinting very fast. Warren Gillette was very easy to work with as far as exchanging the units and refunding our $$$. He did note that they were trying to improve upon the units. They may be better now. I hope this helps.

Is this considered better then the Gillete timer (the one that is at the beginning of this threads topic)? If so, by how much? I.e. milliseconds, tenths of a second? In your opinion is the Gillete timing system still worth buying?

I still don’t think you can buy the Gillette system because the guys says it fails to trip on about 50% of the runs at high speed.

50% is better than nothing. I was hoping it would still be worth buying. I see it as an option if you wanna pack light and buy cheap.
