Any coaching advice for a newbie??

Hey fellow sprinters. Last 2 years I’ve been racing in 5Ks/10Ks. I think I was born with speed, though. So, about 3 weeks ago, I started training for the 400M. There will be all comers meets Jan - Feb in Los Gatos, CA. Any good training regiments for me? I started doing plyos, leg lifts (glutes, quads), and sprinting. For example, yesterday morning, I ran 3 sets of 300s/400s with full recovery. I ran at pretty much full speed.

Welcome to the site,

I’d take a look at our training journals, then think about opening your own.

If you’ve been racing those distances, your aerobic fitness levels will be very high, but your muscles will not be accustomed to running at speed. One thing to remember for sprints is that quantity is not better than quality.

You will probably need to make improvements in your top speed up in order to run a successful 400m, and I’d imagine you haven’t been training for speed at all.

The amount of information in the archives is a bit staggering. Make good use of the search feature, and GL.

Hey guys. Thx for replies. Where in the website can I find the training journals? Great idea. As per the other comment, making the transition to sprinting is indeed something else! I just started doing these quality runs about 3 weeks ago. Last tuesday, my 300s were about 48s while my 400s were about 66s. I’m pretty disappointed with my times now, but there is definitely room for improvement!
