A Bonus pic of Asafa before he was really famous:

PARIS - AUGUST 24: Asafa Powell of Jamaica in action during the first round of the men’s 100m heats at the 9th IAAF World Athletics Championship August 24, 2003 in Paris, France

He was gonna win. If he was not disqualified then. It was gonna be a surprise then. But guys. I watched the heats like a 100 times. And he was THE athlete to pick for winning. Drummond could’ve also won. But how ironic. Both of which looked the best in heats were disqualified

another angle: Marion wins NYC 2006 100m . . . the world titleholder (No. 4) is far back

Debbie Ferguson (left) wins 100m from Zhanna Pintusevich-Block (ukr) in Serbia in heavy rain

Dwight Thomas (JAM) wins 100m in Serbia on Wednesday 7 June 2006. Also in picture are Kim Collins (STK) & Jason Gardener (GBR) who looks like he’s running with a back problem, pelvis looks rolled back under or something…

He pulled out of the Commonwealths with a back problem. He is entered for the Grand Prix at Gateshead on Sunday against Asafa and Frater. I will be there so will let you guys know how they are looking.

I have always disliked the way Gardener runs. He is competitive in the 60 but he always looks like he tries to hold his drive phase 10 meters too long for his accel values. Then for the last 30 m of the race he looks like he is pointing is toe out to the threshold of poor foot placement. Thoughts?

Last I heard…Gardener had pulled out. I was speaking to him just a couple of weeks ago…From what I could understand I don’t think he was entirely pleased with running at Gateshead especially as he was still nursing this back injury.

Asafa Powell eases to the line in Gateshead in his qualifying Heat, I think

Chambers in his heat at Gateshead, headwind

Powell on a (shoulder) roll

why cant asafa take his eyes off that clock!

He said his coach may not be happy with him for how he finished, and why would he? he did ease up (compare his 9.77 from last year to this year - last year he ran through the line).

He is running smarter than last year though, 9.77 last year, and then nothing… this year built up to it, exploded with the =WR. see what he has the rest of the season…

let’s see what justin can come up with at US Nats

Hi Kitkat that was my initial impression and I’ve seen nothing to change it, great pics by the way. Could that shoulder rotation be the technique that Charlie mentioned in some thread (can’t remember which). He thought that Marion Jones would benefit from that alteration in her technique. Or is Asafa overdoing it, hard to tell from still pics. Comments please…

Yes please, can someone clarify shoulder rotation?
