what would be the best kind of weight training program for someone training specifically for the 400m?
I personally would weightrain the same as i would for the 100-200. Also i like to add a burnout set at the end of exersises like the bench, shoulder press, and supplementary bicep/tricep work. Also i like to do a set of 10-16 light speed squats when i am done squattting.
I find that fatigue weights are great for 400m training. The lactic that can be generated is phenomenal. I’ve found that there is a highly level of vascular development with them as well and recovery on the track is much shorter. Some circuit weights are good too.
I do think, however, that traditional strength development as used for the 100m and 200m is essential and should never be left for too long.

Do quality strength training in the gym. Save the rest of your energy for endurance-related exercise on the run - track, hills, variation hop/jump/skip/runs etc.
If you want (additional) upperbody endurance, use the boxing pads, heavybag or medicineballs.
Agreed with Dazed that weights can be used to promote muscle endurance…had a topic on it…:shoot:
whats the name of that post
Strength training for Endurance…it can be done but why not be specifc with the track? Why must endurance be the choice?
Dazed-can you explain precisely what you mean by “fatigue weights” i.e exercises, sets and reps? Thanks.
