A training partner of mine strained some ligaments in his foot a couple of weeks ago, just as we were preparing for the early season. As I’m not a coach, but just the guy who leads our group I’m not sure how to handle this in a structured way.
It’s a real nightmare as it is very debilitating not to be able to put real pressure on the foot-virtually eleminates any of my ideas for injury re-hab work!
I have lent him my floatation vest and given him some pool work to do (6 x30sec efforts) and we had hoped he could do some tempo soon.
He’s not very strong so I suggested he work on his weights as well to make the most of being off the track.
Has anyone got any thoughts on a typical week program he can work to to rehab? Anyone with similar experiences? Like any sprinter he feels more optimistic if there is a program rather than me just saying ‘try x’!
I’m off to the track now anyway, so please don’t think I am rude if not replying to your thoughts immediately! I’ll check back 2morrow.
Thanks for any advice.
Sounds like you already have a program but just not the confidence to do something about it.
Unless you have physio, i’d just start him on any of your current ideas and put structure to it. Get him to record his efforts and subjectivly express how he feels about each aspect then adjust each week from there.
Obviously you want to keep pressure off of the foot but that is really your only constraint.
Of course, my other advice is to seek medical assistance - but i know that isn’t always possible.
