Week-23 Monday
Workout: 800m jog, stretches, drills, 15 min run, 6x1:00 abs, 2600m Tempo, 10 min run
All of my tempo I hit at or below 1:20/400 pace. I felt very strong, and fresh. On the last set of 100’s i had to reign it back a bit. Even though I was on my mid-foot/heel (XC mode) I hit my first rep in 17.1… so much for perfect-pacing.

Workout: 800m jog, stretches, drills, 10 min run, 600,400+200,200+200,
Tough workout, probably not as peppy as a championship-week workout should have been, but it was tough enough. I did the whole thing in spikes on a rubber track.
1:28.1,
1:00 (After going out in 17.1 seconds my first 100m UGh!), 30.00,

Week-23 Wedsnday
Workout: 800m jog, stretches, 10 min run, drills, 5x200 (3-5 min rest), 15 min run, stretches
I did my warmup in a funky order because I was with the distance guys. No big deal. The workout was really easy, though. We took a lot of rest, and just kind of jerked around.

100’s were untimed.
Today was pretty good workout. I think I should’ve done workouts like ths at the begining of the year. Good speed with lots of recovery. shrug I’m learning as fast as my HS career is ending. Oh well. I’m really excited about this upcoming race, but I’m ka bit bitter about my last one. It always feels like I got into finals with an insignificant mark. As if I’m being congratulated for signing my name, or gettin an 800 on the SAT’s…(the new SAT’s are out of 2400…) Anyway, life is good, and my girl is gonna see me run at Los gatos on Friday

Week-24 Tuesday
Workout: 800m jog, stretches, 40y dash :p, 2 miles easy, stretches
I ran a 5.24h 40y today, and almost beat one of our 4x100 runners. He’s also one of the fastest players on the football team, heh… When the race ended all of the youngun’s were yellin’ “OhhH!!”. The Juniors all knew that I was quick because I played Frosh ball with them. Besides that fun little encounter… I am very sniffly and am warm to the touch. My nostrils are a bit raw. Godanm! Why 3 days before the biggest race of my life (so far) do I get sick?! sigh I wonder if a day of rest will be good for me or not?

I used to have that too.
3/4 days before the nationals i got sick.
It’s the nerves or something. Do not go lie in bed too much, stay active. You’ll do just in the race!
good luck!
what was the other guys 40 ? Palmtag, best of luck. It’s been a great season for you either way.
He ran a 5.21h, but had run about 5.1h that day against slower runners. I’m going to be sleeping in tommorrow and today to get every bit of recov from this danmable illness that I can get.

Week-24 Wedsnday
Workout: Nada, I ran sprinted to the bathroom about 2-3 times… sigh I remember when I played 45 minutes of bbal every day, ran to the lunchline for brunch and lunch, and didn’t report a step of it.

The day of reckoning is upon me… Hard start to mix it up with the leaders, and the make a big move on the back straightaway.
Also, in the 4x400, I’m going to go for a bit higher turnover, it seems I’ve been exagerating my knee drive.
Good luck.

Week-24 Friday (Central Coast Section Finals)
Races: 800, 4x400
Results: 1:58.08 6th, 3:23.83 3rd (state qualifiers) 51.3 split
(See results section for in-depth)
I guess this is the end of my 800m season, and the end of my 2006 track season in general. We’ve cancelled our trip to nat’s (Elite guys aren’t in shape, myself included, and money issues) I’m probably going to run a mile at an All Comers meet, but I’m just going to start my milage for XC after state meet.
I have to say that last year -in regards to my training- for every thing I did that was just plain WRONG, I did at least 2 things RIGHT unintentionally, but this year for every thing I did RIGHT I did at least two things WRONG unintentionally. Last year, I had a lower milage, but with a more rigerous workout schedual- training up to 7 days a week for most the year. I had two 7 day weeks this year. Last year I did weight training because I had a weight training class. I also was forced by my mum to take joint and bone supplements. I also took more frequent ice baths. I think as a result of those three things, I didn’t get injured quite so often. Even if some of the ice baths were mistimed, or even if the weight training was haphazard, they still did me more good than not doing them. This year, I chose to do long-runs in the winter time, which helped my aerobic at the begining of the season. I was able to breeze through a 2:00 800 at the wildcat invite. But without the strength, my idiosynchrosis became more than just idiosynchrosis, and under my heavy workload became imbalances. Imbalances that caused me to get the hammy/abductor/booty lock tightness midway through the season. And then, I wasn’t extremely dilligent about maintaining my aerobic endurance. So late in the season, my lungs weren’t really a huge resource to me at all.
I’m not sad, nor depressed, nor relieved (I’ve still got one more race). Right now after this season, a season which could with a certain ring of truth be described as mediocre, I’m feeling more than any emotion pleased that I’ve got one more year. A year were I can apply my determination and intelligence to develop myself as a runner. And goddanmit, I’ve got the ability! 1:51, is in range. This rifle is fine, I was just using the wrong ammo.
26 weeks to glory… more like a twenty four week long story.
I think it’s great that you put so much time and effort into examining your training, but there IS such a thing as ‘paralysis by analysis’… I think that when it comes time for the big meets, that’s when you should stop thinking and just RUN- if you’ve done the right things and trust your own plan, things should fall into place on their own.
congrats on the 4x4, that is awesome
Thanks Krasna I’ve had the “paralysis by analysis” problem this season in a number of races, but not this last friday. In the big races I’ve pulled through and ran well when it counted. I justdon’t think I trained as well this year as I did last year.
You’ve had some good and not so good times this year and I think in time you’ll look back and see it as a valubable learning experience.
