TOKYO, July 15 (AFP) - World 100-metre record holderTim Montgomery will spearhead the field at the Yokohamaathletics meet in September, the Japan Association ofAthletics Federation (JAAF) said Tuesday.
Montgomery, who set the record of 9.78sec in Parislast September, has agreed to take part along with otherUS national champions, including Sydney Olympic goldmedallist Allen Johnson.
World bronze medallist Bernard Williams and Japan’stop sprinter Shingo Suetsugu will challenge Montgomery,while Suetsugu, Asian 200m record holder with 20.03,also compete against Darvis Patton in the 200m.
World silver medallist Koji Murofushi is the topfavourite for the host country after he marked anall-time third best record of 84.86m in the men’s hammerthrow in Prague last month.
Japan’s world bronze medallist Dai Tamesue was tochallenge Sydney Olympic 400m hurdles champion Felix Sanchez of the DominicanRepublic and American Erik Thomas in the men’s 400mhurdles.
Other prominent US champions included DavidKrummenacker (800m), Tim Broe (5,000m), world bronzemedallist Kelli White (women’s 200m) and Amy Acuff(women’s high jump), the association said.
