He set the new WR at 12"2!!!
Wilmington, DE - February 13, 2006 - A Guinness World Record for the “Highest Slam Dunk” will be attempted by professional basketball player Wayne “Above & Beyond” Clark following the award’s ceremony of the Mark Sills “Black History Month” Boys Basketball Classic 2006 at Fletcher H. Brown’s Boys & Girls Club. Wayne Clark will attempt to break the current Guinness World Record of 12’1” for the vertical slam-dunk previously set by Michael “Wild Thing” Wilson of the Harlem Globetrotters on March 30, 2001 at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Clark is no stranger to breaking records.
Last summer during an AND One Celebrity event down in lower Delaware, Wayne Clark broke a backboard during warm-ups with a left-handed “kiss the rim” dunk. This was the first time he had ever done something like that in his career and it was the first time something like that ever happened in Delaware. What was so fascinating about this dunk was the fact he was still elevating after the rim broke o ff the fiberglass backboard. It was pretty historic according to recently, pro basketball great, Val Whiting, who was recently nominated as on of the “Top 25” Women’s Basketball Player in NCAA History.
“Wayne Clark is an incredible athlete and works extremely hard. As hard as he trained this past summer, we were expecting him to get a break through as an athlete. But who could ever imagine that.”
Val Whiting, NASM PES, Owner of GameShape LLC
Wayne Clark is no stranger to performing athletic feats that amaze audiences of all levels. He has won dunk competitions nationally and internationally. This list includes:
• 10-Time NBA Hoop-it-UP Slam Dunk Champion
• McDonald’s Street Ball Slam Dunk Champion (Ploiesti Romania 2005)
• Romanian Slam Dunk Champion 2003
• 2-Time Gatorade Atlanta Hawks Slam Dunk All-Star Champion
• And More to Come…He has being playing internationally and nationally as a guard since 1999. Internationally, he played for Mexico, Italy, Hungary, and Romania. Nationally he has done tours with Harlem Globetrotters and And 1. He is currently playing in the International Basketball League with Cedarville Jaguars for the upcoming 2006 season which starts in April. Wayne has been training with J. Raymond using a new training program, called A.B.L.E. Training©, which stands for Agility, Balance, Leverage, and Explosiveness.
“Wayne Clark is a gifted athlete, however, performing exercises that train agility, balance, leverage, and explosiveness are important components for him to have longevity. With this training so far, he has broken a backboard. I think history will repeat itself in terms of him breaking the Guinness World Record for the highest slam dunk.”
J. Raymond, NASM PES, Co-Owner of GameShape LLC
For Wayne Clark, the opportunity to break the Guinness World Record is only special because he is getting the opportunity to do it during ‘Black History Month’ in front of an audience of youth.
“Records are made to be broken, but to get the opportunity to break one during a time when the most celebrated African-Americans in history are recognized is a record in itself. What is even more special about this opportunity is that I get to set an example in front of tomorrow’s future, the youth in America, that you can accomplish whatever you believe in. But to be honest, the real record breaker here is Mark Sills who is providing me with the opportunity to express myself just like he has been providing youth in the tri-state area with the opportunity to express themselves through basketball.”
Wayne Clark, Guard, IBL Cedarville Jaguars
