What is the best way to develope endurance for soccer

i was wondering what you guys would suggest to build up endurance for soccer.

Would you suggest intervals or just doing miles and miles of jogging. i was thinking splitting them up by doing a 30 minute run 1 week and then the next do 4 400’s or so just trying to buildup. With a work:rest ratio of 1:1.

Do you think this is the best way to build up endurance or would you choice something else like fartlek runs.

My week generally looks like this tell me what you think.

Monday- practice
Tuesday- game
Wednesday- practice
Thursday- game
Friday- rest
Saturday- endurance
Sunday- light jog

Light jog consists of 1.1 in about 11 minutes

Endurance is 4.4 miles in about 30 minutes

Ball skills are done daily really easy day before game (20 minutes)
Day during game same duration (after game)
Saturday and Friday 2 sessions each day for about a half in length
For ball skills all I do is cones and juggling on 20 minute days and cones juggling and moves on 30 minute days

thanks

i honestly think the best way to increase endurance for soccer is to simply play soccer.

I think that if you can maintain a run at between 7 - 9 mph for a half hour you are aerobically fit to play soccer. You will see improvements in your performance if you work on your speed and your anerobic systems. The best time to develop these areas, is pre - season.

ESPN 3 makes a great point but I do also suggest tempo runs for maintenance and some sprint drills with cones b/c believe it or not you do MANY sprints during a game regardless of what position you play (except for goalie of course :P)

FORZZA AZZURRI!!

I know a soccer player that was one of the best players in the country in highschool competed in track and had absolutely no endurance for the 800m. Had a high squat and bench and could hold up fine in a soccer game

Here is my theory on it:

SPEED TRAINING FOR SOCCER!!!

My friend from nigeria trained a kid at vcu that was 5’3 with speed training and some moderate speed endurance. This kid went from the end of the bench to CAA conference player of the year. He was doing falling starts and the whole shabang!! And VCU was ranked top 25 in division 1 for soccer.

I hate putting three posts in a row but a will. Didnt Curtis Frye coach soccer at ECU. Maybe he is the guy we should be asking.

Lets ask ben who trained Libyian dictator Muammer Gaddafi’s son, a soccer player.

Tim O Lane

I am with you.

During my off season, when I train myself. I do speed training, and my endurance training is short sprints, but, with incomplete recovery, instead of the long sprint of 200-300ms

Works well for me

i htink ben was showing gaddafis son how to accelerate faster thus reaching the target quicker.

what is the objective in soccor???

to firstly get to the target first(the ball) and play a co-ordinated game as a team and lastly score goals.how do you get to the target first??

by improving speed and acceleration.work over distances of 10-30m from standing starts, lying starts.a soccor player hardly runs flat out for more than 50m and this is rare.endurance can be worked on by practicing game play during practice but rowing, cycling, stat skiing can enhance endurance

its not rocket science althought some soccor coaches go way OTT.

tom tellez helped andre agassi improve his tennis.he didn;t show him how to strike the ball but he did show him how to reach the target quicker by doing runs

Gadaffi’s son signs for top Italian club

THE billionaire son of Colonel Gadaffi, the Libyan leader, could play first division football in Italy next season after signing for Perugia yesterday, writes Richard Owen. Al-Saadi Gadaffi, who owns al Ittihad, a football club in Tripoli, and is captain of Libya’s national team, resigned from the club last week to clear the way for his move to Italy.

Perugia officials said he had signed a two-year contract worth €600,000, which he is expected to donate to charity. (© The Times, London)

Nice no23, did you hear that while ben was training Gaddafi’ son he was even allowed to look at him?:o

Yup,
:help:

Lucky he wasn’t training his daughter …

Seriously?

There are just some things you can’t share with other people, lol… Go with X-Man’s comments, they come closest to what I’m all about…

Timo,

Not sure that is true. Long time ago Trans World Sport did a segment on Ben training Gaddafi’s son, and they were training together.

Ben was there to help him run 100m in 11 seconds - which would help him with his soccer.

Did it help?

Is this the same son who has just signed for Perugia (Italian serie A side).?

X-Man, where did you read about this? What kind of drills did Tellez have him do, any good links to information on speed programs for tennis players?

David i didn’t read it,i seen it.tellez simply showed agassi how to apply sound mechanics to sprinting.if it was myself i would have applied a different approach to the actual running part of it
