west coast indoor

Does anyone know of the indoor meet schedules in and around LA/southern cal for the 09 season…

im not from there at all, but looks like im moving there…

any help would be niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice…

indoor meets in California are non existent

There are no indoor meets, however there are some all-comers in Jan/Feb I believe. Just need to check around. Check out dyestatcal.com, directathletics.com to find some meets in that time.

really…no indoor…i know its hot etc but i didnt know that…

so, everything is outdoor…how do they get indoor qualifiers then…i wouldnt think you could get an indoor mark outdoors becuase of wind etc…so where would the nearest one be, LSU ?

They travel to indoor meets around the west coast, etc. I am not sure where the closest indoor facility is to LA though.

The University of Washington here in Seattle has an indoor track and puts on a couple of pretty large indoor meets. Lots of Calif state university teams come, along with teams from the northwest and even midwest, but I don’t think that the real heavy hitters from Cali (e.g. UCLA, USC) come up.

There are indoor meets in New Mexico, Arizona, even Utah I believe.

Why worry about a lot of indoor meets if you’re in Cali??? If you’re trying to go to indoor nationals, I guess that makes sense, but there are so many great outdoor meets at nice facilities, may as well take advantage of it. I think some even run the 60m (outdoors obviously).

We don’t have any indoor meets in SoCal, but we do have indoor distances on outdoor tracks. The NAIA athletes are able to qualify for their NC on outdoor tracks like Azuza-Pacific, where you can also find open athletes like Carmelita Jeter and Bryan Clay competing. Some other non-NAIA tracks like East LA JC (mondo track) also have indoor events like 60 (sprints and hurdles).

Northern Arizona U in Flagstaff (the Mountain-T is VERY popular and not everyone gets in) is the closest indoor track, but they have their sprints fairly early (see Charlie’s comments about the need to wake up 5 hours before your event) in the morning. BYU (mondo super-x track) and U Colorado each have a single indoor meet in Janurary, and U Washington has several meets (if you’ve never been there, be prepared for a LOT of sprinters, and they have entrance standards).

You can find the Southern California schedule here:

thanks alot guys…

yeah, Indoor nationals and European indoors (7.85m i think to qualify) is a more distant goal for next year, but ill be training out west…

i guess i can mostly do outdoor meets, and as long as i get 1 or 2 indoors then i could use those marks…
