Video of Rome 400?

I’m very keen to see video of the Rome men’s 400m (Wariner v Merritt Mk 3). Sorry if I’ve missed it, and if it’s been posted on Page 2 of the Rome meet thread, I cannot access it with the work currently being done on the site.

Thanks TMSSF. You’ve greatly helped me (or rather the athlete I was interested in trying to help). I just couldn’t find the actual Rome race on You Tube and neither could the athlete’s coach. So now I’ve seen where he went wrong and I can offer a view. (tried to boost your reps, by the way, but the ghost in the machine told me to spread it around…sorry :o ) kk

Another example of bad leaning (by Merritt here). I think leaning is inferior to running through the line (except in the sprint hurdles).

I think Merritt has done it prematurely (by two strides) otherwise he would have won it. Warriner was lucky because Merritt at the time was going slightly “backwards” to correct his balance. If this was not the case Warriner would have lost it by 0.03-5s.

are you able to provide some input that may help others here or would that breach trust / confidentiality? Understand if it is an issue.

TMSSF I had the same issue as KK re rep points.

Appreciate the thought of compensation. This may sound corny, but I’ve always believed it important to support this forum in anyway that I could - irrespective of any direct reward. So many have helped me to learn as well.

I’ve offered to mentor a coach in Oz and she accepted that offer, so we correspond and talk about programme theory, race modelling, race itinerary, recovery/regeneration etc - the lot really. Her athlete is Joel Milburn. I wanted to see how he ran in Rome - his first run in Europe - where he clocked 45.40, which was good first-up for him.

After TMSSF posted the Rome video I was able to catch a few moments of Milburn’s race and I just noticed he came into the 200 start zone well placed and came out of that third 100m in second-last place. The interpretation had to be correct, and Milburn felt he had run the opening 200m too slow, but from what I could see it seemed like he did OK there. His issue was not carrying his backstraight momentum into the third 100m. So some race modelling in practice was called for. Just my opinion. I talk it over with his coach, Penny Gillies and she takes it or leaves it. On this occasion she took the suggestion on board and in Luzern he went a PB 44.99. So maybe the advioce was OK. But I want to stress that Penny is a very fine coach, a two-time Olympic hurdler, so she knows a thing or two dozen about this sport. I’m sure she could do the job without my help, but I certainly enjoy our discussions and I’m happy to see Milburn making progress. I don’t know if he can make the Olympic final this year, but if he sticks with it I think there are some really good moments ahead for him and his coach. kk:)
