Athletics-U.S. wants sprint showdown with Jamaica

RALEIGH, North Carolina, March 7 (Reuters) - The United States wants a showdown with Jamaica to determine which country has the best sprinters, the top U.S. athletics official said on Saturday.

The proposed USA-Jamaica Challenge would feature two competitions, one in each country, consisting of nine events, USA Track and Field (USATF) chief executive Doug Logan said.

In a letter to IAAF Council member and area representative Neville (Teddy) McCook of Jamaica and released by USATF, Logan also said potential dates were May and June.

The two countries dominated sprint and hurdles races at the Beijing Olympic Games, winning 11 gold medals in the events highlighted by Jamaican Usain Bolt’s three golds. (Writing by Gene Cherry; editing by Rex Gowar)

HMM, DIDN’T THEY JUST HAVE A SHOWDOWN - AT THE OLYMPICS? kk

I think this is a great idea personally as it would allow for great exposure for the sport. But dont they normally have a relays showdown at the penn relays? Also theyll have another showdown at the world championships. The hardest part would to get the big names to sign on.
