Us Champs Day 4

Yea seriously it’s 2007 and we still can’t get more instant data on these races. I guess we should be happy they got the womens 400h height correct for the finals

Did you see the look on michael johnson’s face! He looked a bit nervous.

he knows its just a matter of time before tyson gets the record

I tend to agree with this statement. In mostly all cases I’ve seen, overdistance really seems to help. It makes sense too. The body will adapt to what it’s told to, and if it thinks it’s going to be running further then it really needs to be…well then you darn well better expect a top notch performance when it runs less distance then it originally planned for!

My reasoning is that:
A: 300s are more specific to 200m
B: That the 400 races are added to the usual prep and not just a continuation of what she’s always done in previous years.
Can someone update us on this by describing the number, dates, and times of 400m runs this year in comparison to previous years? What is her PB at 400m?
So far the higher speeds shown in the 100 have not converted to 200m performance but the season is young yet.
To me, she doesn’t look as lean as I’ve seen her from last yrs’ shots. Her prep may well be aimed at further into the season as she was a shoe-in to qualify at the 200m.

Was coached by Pat Connolly in 2004 and since 2005 by Bob Kersee.

Charlie is right, if 400m had so much importance for 200m, then why Sanya is leading after the bend, and why Allyson has a better finish?
Video of her 50.40 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBpkGNELaz4
Allyson’s finish at 400m is not bad in spite of beeing a 100/200 runner. Actually, it’s quite usual (see Grace Jackson, Gwen Torrence, etc who had great 400m last straight too).

Intersting…why do you think her 100 times have dropped over the past few years, but her 200 times havent changed as much?

You have to keep in mind her first 22.11 is at altitude… check out her other times that season. There was definitely progression since then.

From what I see on the progressions shown, the 400s have improved significantly as well as the 100, so the 400m SE will have an impact but just hasn’t yet, so I’d imagine the 200 will be dropping very soon as well.

The US 200 (maybe semi?) in which Felix shows great form (foreground) ahead of Sanya Richards.

Allyson’s action is so reminiscent of Grace Jackson’s. Must be those preposterously long legs

Here are my guestimates for the splits based on the internet footage. Obviously since the fluctuation needed to alter the speed is very small and I only have a small number of frames to choose from it is very hard to do (hence perhaps the increase in speed at 140m - unless this is a breathing thing) but I think it is something like:

Dist Time Split Speed (m/s)

90___ 9.22
100__10.12__0.9____11.11
110__11.02__0.9____11.11
120__11.953_0.93___10.71
130__12.92__0.967__10.34
140__13.82__0.9 ___11.11
150__14.72__0.9 ___11.11
160__15.653_0.93___10.72
170__16.62__0.967__10.34
180__17.62__1.0____10
190__18.62__1.0____10
200__19.62__1.0____10

Certainly he is crossing the line at 10m/s as I checked the splits at 190, 195, 200m. Let’s wait for the USTAF official splits to know for sure…

Based on this, he’s pretty much on pace with MJ to 100m though in much worse conditions. I had suspected he might be a bit faster even.

Looks like the training program is working for Spearmon as well

I have the USATF Data that we did for the meet…

Gay
5.69, 10.19, 14.75, 19.62

Spearmon
5.91, 10.49,15.05, 19.89

I wasn’t that far out from the poor quality online footage! Mr Tolbert didn’t you do 10m splits down the home straight? I’d like to see the official stuff for the last 100m to see how much he is slowing down! I think it should be compulsory for all tracks to have every 10m mark on them like in the US nationals. Would make analysing video footage a lot easier.
