I am not an Ultra-runner myself, but i have crewed for a few and helped in a few aid stations. Mostly all Ultra training is high mileage and more mileage and more mileage and more mileage. One guy i know does 5-10 miles daily on the weekdays and 25+ miles on Sat or Sun and takes the other weekday off. Most of this running occurs in hard terrain (as most of the cool Ultra races like Hardrock are at altitude and involve lots of elevation changes. Hardrock’s motto is “from sea level to mount Everest and back”)
The other thing about ultras is that training is only part of the equation. Planning the “during race” supplies and knowing how to run smart matter as well.
This might not be the best site to get info on Ultra-running, as this is primarily a sprint forum. The best source of info on Ultras is Ultra-running magazine: www.ultrarunning.com and there are a few ultra forums as well. (i don’t visit them, so i wouldn’t know.)
Thanks
