Wow, two conseuctive 0.80. I remember pj remarking that Carl Lewis split 0.80 between 50-60m or 60-70m (can’t remember exactly) in his 9.80 (+4.3) in 1991 Tokyo quarter-final
Hey Tom, it’s been a while.
Dayum, 2 straight 0.80s.
As I suspected, it’s loaded towards the top end and finish due to the assistance but not the first 50m. I think a legal 9.68 will show a much faster first 50m and slower second half (where greater wind resistance impacts exponentially at top speed but had little effect on the initial stages) I suspect one or two .82 segments will be enough.
Funny I ran a 9.6 in the 90 meters at practice yesterday. lol
Liiiiite!!
His form is amazing. Everything just looks perfect. I guess it was one of those days that everything clicks.
Yup - the effects of wind resistance increase with the square of the net velocity (relative to the wind).
Since the wind in this race was 4.1m/s, at Gay’s top speed of 12.5m/s, he was only feeling the equivalent wind resistance of a 1.19 second 10m split with no wind.
He’s gonna get his tail whooped by Bolt. Maybe even Powell. (Crossing my fingers for Powell).
