Hi I ran track back in high school only for one season though. I really miss the sport. I’m now in college and all I do is go to school and work. I really haven’t been working out. I used to do a variety of sports like football 3 seasons, track 1 seasoning, wrestling one season. Now that I’m in college my school doesn’t really offer any sports or clubs in these sports. I really want to get back into track. So I wanted to know is it possible to compete in track event/meets after college. I live in the Long Island NY area. Any info would be greatly apreciated
YOu certainly can here in Australia. Collage level here is nowhere near as big as it is over your way though.
Just get into it, have fun doing it, at least you will have a fit strong body to be pleased with.
I would try to compete in college but my school doesn’t offer any sports because of funding they only have female sports and male sports are Basketball,Lax, and Soccer but i dont like any of them and never played them in high school. Any places in that I could run track in US
yes buddy all u have to do is find a meet you want to run in and enter into the event. you wont be able to run in all meets cause of time qualifications, but there are many meets in which you can enter into as “open”. There are also various summer track programs that start around the same time high school programs start. You are probably to old to run in AAU but you more than like can run USATF programs, just go on the internet and start searching, your bound to find something.
PS. the meets will have charges per event…not very exspemsive though $20 or so.
I’m 18 turning 19 in May. Is that too old for AAU? how old are these people at open meets?
Well big man they are gonna be college athletes. (What “open” means is that its open t othe public). Your just gonna be running agiants them. Its as if your a school coming to the meet to compete. I mean not all college meets are supper competative, there are lot’s of ones that are very similar to high school meets were you will have your real yard burners then everybody else will be around the same speed. if your scared of your own ability level then try to find community college, D-II/III, NAIA colleges, thats not to say that there arent really talented guys at those schools its just that on average the competative level will be a lil lower. And for the AAU yea im pretty sure your to old but you should check with their page yourself to be sure, but dont be scared of USATF its not that much more competative its just for older people such as ourselfs.
Hey if you can give me some stats it will allow me to see were you stand.
Well I haven’t ran track since freshman year and haven’t worked out in a year so i’m trying to get back into shape. I know I’ve improved alot since these times but I dont know how much thought. 100m low 14’s 200 Was a 28. something and 400 was almost close to 65. That was freshman year and I haven’t ran track in a while. I’m trying get back into shape in 2007 and be in my best physical shape to hopefully compete in track or boxing. I know i’m kind of behind since people having been running competivilty much longer than me. Also I most likely wont transfer to a community college or a d2 school. I’m trying to transfer schools based on academics not the hope of playing sports again for the school
Im not saying you have to transferr schools im saying that you should run at the meets held by those kind of schools. You will be attending your current school but running at a meet. Do you get what im saying? Well if those are the latest stats ok, your going to have to train hard. I’m sure you’ll be faster now, just dont take it to serious jsut have fun with it. hey buddy a sight you could check out could be www.trackshark. com www.directathletics.com or you could just look up you local chapter track clubs to look up up-coming events.
I get what your saying. What are most college athletes at these meets times are in the 200 and 400??
Depends on the level of the meet. I doubt you are going to find any decent outdoor meets without a winner under 22 in the 200m and under 48 in the 400m. Some conferences are weaker any you may find slower, but I doubt much slower. Some meets will also run various heats based on your level (what time you put down), so that may help you a bit more from a learning experience standpoint.
well i run juco in kansas in the 200m people usually come any were around high 20.'s to low 23’s so i mean it very’s quite a bit.
And in the 400m it will range from 46’s to 55’s so once again its a wide range of times. Nothing to be scared about i mean you cant expect not to have never run seriously in your life a be a top contender. Im sure your capalbe of doing somthing good.
Not all meets will have those fast times i’ve given some meets will have nothing but the slower times wile other meets will have nothing but the fast times so it depends on the entres to the meets you should be able to look them up as you register in the races. Just get into contact with the meet cordnator and they will assit you.
you could always try to join a club team. makes it easier to get into open meets and compete on club levels.
