I have noticed 3 or 4 thread on the 100m and thought it would be good to have a thread for comments on world championships.
I am sitting at work after watching Jerome Young destory the 400m field. Commentators said Tyree Washington went out to hard - I think that was crap. Young had the field covered.
The french athlete was 10m behind with 90 to go dug deep to get third
Also the great Jonathon Edwards retired a true champion
The WC have been unreal. I could not care less than no records are being broken. I just love watching people compete at the global level to see who is the champion of the world for that year.
Jerome Young ran a great race, the 100m was great, and even the 10,000m was incredible given that they broke 13 minutes for the second 5000m.
The only aspect which annoyed me a bit was hearing the voice of a female campion when interviewed which was as masculine as I have ever heard in the past 20 years of track. And it was not Mutola.
Darren campbell did well to get the bronze in the 100meters which he considers his second event. He’s a “championships” athlete. It’s a shame training partner katherine merry is not fully fit.
Christian malcom beat Darren campbell earlier in year and Dwain beat him easily over 100m. Yet Dwain didn’t get the medal and christian malcom went out early in the 200meters.
Konstadinos Kederis is out of the 200m (tendinitas) which I was dissapionted to hear.
Where’s Usain bolt?
There’s a new guy in the 200 that I never heard of before, bit like that new trinindad guy in the 100m. Very fluid and easy looking.
Kenderis gonna have so much pressure on him at next years olympics.
yeah, John Edwards retired a true champion allright, and he’s taken to the commentry box and studio like a duck to water. He’s allready lined up to present a show on the BBC, songs of praise…
whats the controversy around jerome young (the 400 champ) testing positive for banned substances…shortly after testing, is allowed to compete in the sydney olympics, and then wins the 400 in the world championships? whats going on here?
She is also a team player too. The only Aussie athletes to mention that they are now getting ready for the relay are Jana and PJ.
Did you know, we’ve had even two guys fabricate excuses to get out of running the 400m relay. Also, one girl quit the team with a couple of days to go (not sure why as she was running local comps only a week before) and one girl turned up injured and didn’t tell anyone. I am at a loss to understand this behaviour.
A relay counts just as much to your country’s medal tally as does an individual.
If you have committed to the team there is NO reason for letting your country and team-mates down. The time to say you don’t want to do the relay is at selection time. I know plenty of athletes that would give their left one just to get a chance to represent their country. I don’t understand these people.
Most countries don’t do a thing to support their athletes, why should the athletes care. Every olympics and world champs countries act like the world is judging them on their medal count and put this pressure on their athletes. Why?
I just think it would be great to get a World Champs or Olympic medal, relay or otherwise and it would make me proud to represent my country doing it.
I just thing if you are selected for the relay and make the trip then you should run the relay or decline selection in the first place. There are many people that would love to run on the relay, why take this away from them?
A well drilled replay team is a spectacular and very exciting sight.
