Good to see Tsatoumas reappearing.

He should be jumping tomorrow, too.

I hope to see him back to his 07 form this year, could be a great pump for the event.

This meet was shown on Foxtel (Aust cable TV) yesterday.

A female Greek pole vaulter - Dímitra Emmanouíl was attempting 4-35 when she landed awkwardly on the mat and broke her right ankle. The ankle bone was sticking out with her foot almost at a right angle to the leg. Sickening to watch, not helped by the camera focussing on the injured leg. Poor girl was screaming in pain. Just about the worst injury I’ve seen at an athletics meet.

She had already won the competition so I assume the 4-35 was an attempt at a meet record or a PB.

Does anyone have an update on how Dimitra is recovering from her injury?

The meeting organisers were slow into taking action that evening, so apart from an X-ray, I think, they did nothing else. Dimitra’s leg got swollen as a result and the doctor had to wait for the oedema to go before operating on her ligaments two weeks later. She is now recovering and the whole procedure is expected to last about 6 months.

After an operation on her shoulder about a year ago, this new incident interrupted her attempts for the WC standard -she would probably get it. She is young, talented and strong and she immediately put the next indoor season in her plans.

I hope nobody gets injured in this stadium in September (World Athletics Final)…

PS I happen to know her coach in person.
