Does anyone have any experience in using EMS with swimmers? If so, that would be great!
First rule of doing EMS with swimmers… Get them out of the pool first!
I’ll keep that in mind . Anyone know the best areas to target?
A guess: Lats, Tibialis Anterior, and then other typical muscle groups (ie. abs, glutes, quads, hams, etc.)
Yes, no, mabe?
But you could save time and stim them all at the same time!
Does anyone have any experience with the ARP (acclerated recovery Program) muscle stimulator that is used by Strength coach Jay Schroeder. Here is a website that explains it’s theory: http://www.arpprogram.com/arpprotocol/index.html
Jay told me that it allows the muscle to relax eccentrically which makes it superior to other EMS units. I’m trying to understand the superity of this device over regular EMS units so if anyone can clue me in I’d appreciate it.
Some therapists claim the superiority of high freq stim (equip made by Siemans) but I havn’t found that to be the case.
Stim, regardless of freq must create a pulse train to activate the muscle anyway so this sort of claim may be only to justify an outrageous price for the same result.
I have used both. Russian Stim and what is really called TheraStim are what you are referring to. I am here to tell you TheraStim works. Just to give a quick example, my father-in-law who hasn’t touched his toes since the fifth grade (he’s now 63) went through two treatments and his palms were on the floor. Now, the other stim couldn’t do this. Denis Thompson has posted on this site before. I am sure he would love to add in the benefits of TheraStim. If you look at the current (wave form) it is taken in by the body. The signal has the same properties of the electrical muscle signal. (The body doesn’t fight it) the current resonates through out your body. It’s great at finding trigger points etc. Plus, what I like is you are in motion and doing what causes pain during the treatment.
Just some thoughts
Depends on how the stim is used in large measure. We got some Dr Ho’s stims (cheap as hell) and got great results with it. Funnily enough, we got the stims from a financial newspaper that wanted to write an expose slamming it! In fairness, the paper did publish that the results were surprisingly good. My point being that, in the hands of a good trainer/physio etc, most EMS equipment can yield results through their use in creative ways. I will say that some wave forms are more tolerable than others and the forms usually described as “Russian Stim” are often less tolerable.
Again, TheraStim feels like no stim I have ever had on my body. It has such high power with no skin burn at all. Like I said before, it travels outside the treatment area to help identify where the pain might really be coming from. It is a high level of DC (direct Current) with variable high and low frequencies. I put it on to warm up and there is hardly a need to stretch. (Immediate range of motion increases) I put it on at the end of a workout, and it feels like I could go again if I needed to. So many different uses! I love it for recovery!
That’s prob the same one. Depends what you want it for. It’s good for loosening etc but not for strength programs.
Again, I can’t really comment on any differences but protocols for use may be the ticket here as well. Skin burn is a result of surface contact problems (or any area that you shave). If you use good pads and/or contact gel, you shouldn’t get it.
Thank you Charlie.
I want use it for rehab/therapy session.
If it just for yourself and cost is a big factor, it can be an alternative.
I’m a therapist, do you think that Dr. Ho Device can be useful for me (for a therapist)?
Do you know a better alternative?
Tnx
Not sure about longevity but if you have several, you should be OK.
Does anyone know what the Compex Sport Model preset programs are? By this I mean what the actual setting are for certain programs so that I can try them on mine (non-compex unit).
is the arp the only stim made that “relaxes” the muscle?
