the nightmare diet

Nightmare,

What do you drink during your workouts?

Do you or have you tried JB’s recommendation and drink 1/2 your post-workout drink before or during training, then have the other 1/2 post workout?

normallly i drink just water. if i need something else i will drink a product called G1 from gpush. www.gpush.com

i use all my surge after as i dont like having high GI carbs pre workout, i seem to get a bit of a crash half way through if i do. also, i feel like if i dont have any calories during, the surge post really seems to work that much better.

I have read that you are a fan of John Bernardi. Have you read any of Charles Poliquin´s diet ideas (T-mag Forum) or Mauro dePasquale´s (the Anabolic Diet)? They are also into the low carb thing, I was just curious if you blended different ideas, or if your diet is more from one source, or your own after experimentation. If you have answered these questions already above, I apologize!

I want to do some low carb stuff with some athletes I work with. I tried the T-Dawg (from T-mag) diet for about 6 weeks, and loved it. I was afraid of the carb lust, but it was surprisingly low! Also, I had less gas when I was on the diet.

P.S. Thanks for the email!

right now john is the biggest influence, but i am a little information mongrel and i try to read everything i can. i have come across some pretty crazy stuff but everything on some level to some people has some merit to it.

i know chris T did 8 weeks(?) of the fat fast where he lived on protein powder and flax oil!!!

i like dropping john’s name for a couple of reasons: hes smart as a m!@#@#$@#er and his website is a great resource to send people to. the t-mag site also rocks, and i love how they grab input from so many people from differnet people.

so while i really dig john and his work, i am also looking outside the box for more information.

If you are already lean and currently eat lots of carbs what would be the advantage of following this sort of diet?

N4D,
Can I get your opinion on the Universal Nutrition range, specifically the Animal Pak Multi Vit, please.

i am pretty carb intolerant, and it seems the lower i take my carbs (within reason) the better i feel. i have no energy problems and as long as im taking care of post workout nutrition and eating fruits and veggies.

one thing i will add, (even if you are lean), since clemson turned me on to the book “the colour code”, and i changed my fruits and veggies up, ive noticed the natural vits and mins along with the phytochemicals have really helped me out all around.

syco

i couldnt find the exact breakdown of how much of each was in the each pak. there is alot of stuff in there, but the levels may be too low to do any good and depending on when you take what pill/pak some of the ingredients may counteract each other. if you can find or list more info i could i would be more than happy to look them over.

Nightmare unbelievable. Excellent diet. What do you think about the choline cocktail twinlabs sells for memory/cognitive in the powerder form? It looks really good. So does the vitamin shop brand cognitve pills…they have everything in them even rna. Also I have to say that I like the western diet especially for people with ADD. I read a study which showed the effect of glusose on the brain I guess you could say the American diet on the brain and it wasnt good. It wasnt good at all. People with to much glucose showed irribility, lack of focus ect ect. I try to stay away from alot of glucose except for after workouts. This is why dr.squat recommends nothin glycemic before workouts. It ruins concentration along with production of other natural hormones in the body. Also what are your thoughts on another product called enzymic therapy or something or other. It is made by a reknown fatigue specialist. This guy is suppossed to be the best. I read the ingredients and I have yet to find a better product out there. It is in a powder form and sells at vitamin shoppe. Anyone else seen it. Also I would like to point out another point that the brain takes 15-20% of the bodys atp level. Wouldnt supplementing with Atp leave a bigger pool for the brain to draw from. Also you have inspired me to improve my diet. We should all be proud of the nightmare diet. Excellent post.

thanks tim, like ive said before, ive gotten alot more than ive given around here, so im just trying to help out where i can, sweeping floors, picking up towels, doing rupert’s taxes picking up charlie’s drycleaning etc…

seriously though, the only neuro type products that i have tried is powerdrive and nadh and i love both. with the effectiveness of other products, its going to depend on what you are difficent in. ie: i deal alot with triathletes and getting them to take in enough protein is a battle, so ill start them on a protein powder (usually pro-score 100 from champion because of the high BCAA levels) all of a sudden they are recovering better and getting stronger! amazing isnt it? they look at me like im selling them some magical powder, when really its just putting the right thing in the right place. same with neuro products, so many factors on what you and i will respond with, genetics, diet, training, sleep etc…so stick with brands you trust (esp you with having to worry about testing) and try out different things, but tim, viagra is only for recreation, not performance:D

dont do it nightmare its a setup…

i had some extra time around the store today, probably because its minus 25 C in calgary and nobody is shopping, so i thought i would update all aspects of the thread.

progress: well this plan has worked out better than expected as far as making the scale move, body compostion and maintaining strength/muscle. i started feb 14th at 183lbs and between 7-8 BF%, today i hoped on the scale and was 174.5lbs and around 6% BF. i guessed i would be alittle leaner at 175lbs (and im splitting hairs here between 5 and 6%) so i think some of the weight that came off was because of a couple other factors aside from fat loss: cycling off creatine, switching from MRPs (that contain sweetners that make me hold water) to pro-score 100 (no sweetners or flavour), the mild anti-water retention effect of the the lean system 7 and trimming carbs a little bit more (therefore holding fewer carbs/water). so i will continue on course (even though i am at “fighting weight” now), down to 170ish and see what is going on BF/body comp wise there.

my energy levels/overall feeling is better than ever and quickness/agility training is going great. my strength levels have changed (probably due to the creatine) my static weights have dropped a bit (not enough to be concerned about) but my body weight movements (plyo/chins/dips) have improved.

Hi Nightmare -
just one small question regarding the original diet -
What is the reason for having carbs ( cottage cheese ) and fat ( udo’s/flax oil ) so late in the day ?
Would I be better off with just just a protein only shake ?

Hazarding a guess - N4D trains - like me - first thing in the morning and he has no real Carbs since 12 that day.

gloop

i was using the cottage cheese and udos to get a slow release of protein over the night (and the cottage cheese we use is really low in carbs), but i was finding that i was having a tough time sleeping when i had cottage cheese or vanilla grow before bed. i did a little research and found that both of those are high in L-tyrosine and lower in tryptophan, hence making me more alert than tired…

so instead im having 5 eggs (3 whole omega eggs and 2 whites) before bed and it seems to work great. still good recovery, sleeping well and i dont have to get up at 3:00am to empty my bladder, which happens if i have a protein shake right before bed.

Holy moly Nightmare that flax oil tastes like stagnant wombat urine seasoned with what our cat eats .
Is there any special technique / trick to getting this stuff down voluntarily or do I simply get my mates to tie me down and hold my nose lol
Anything that tastes that bad has gotta b good 4 u
My bottle recommends two 5 ml teaspoons per day without exceeding the dose - is that enough ( I’m hoping ur gonna say yes )

Gloop,

Us Scots must be made of hardy stuff - I actually like the taste of flax oil (no joke):), especially on tuna.

The amount of oil a person needs depends on a lot of factors - age, size, activity, climate, time of year, etc, etc.

I won’t add to the defamation of scots quisine
let me just say that after ur previous posts regarding haggis I’m not surprised lol
Actually its not just the taste its the texture as well - I just have never been able to stomach oil or fat of any description -
would its properties be damaged if I added it to soup ?

OW

i use 2 tbsp per day of udo’s and it also tastes gross, but i have gotten use to it. not sure if thats good or not…

i find flax is gross, my wife just eats it off the spoon (shes a stud) but i put my udos in my shakes, seems to help spread the taste out over the course of the beverage…if you use a mrp (like choc met rx) flax or udos actaully makes it taste better for some reason…

keep up the good work!

update on me, i tipped the scale at 172.4 this am, its been along time since ive been this lean and this light. my strength is still “all aces” and my strength to weight ratio is better than its ever been. sorry i havent been around much, but i have added some yohimbe to my routine to try and get rid of the last little bit of pudge around my bellybutton and it is pretty hardcore stuff, it makes it tough to type adn focus on one thing for lionger than 30 seconds, but man its works!!! ill try and contain myself alittle better today and hopefully ill get to the box full of u2u’s sometime today!

go auburn!!!
