 My friend has a coach that thinks that she should play like 3 hours a day monday though saturday. The coach thinks by doing this there skill level will improve but she says that she feels bad from it. Just as in track should she have some light days in between. Also she says that here coach says they should only do weights one time a week athough this is their off-season and for sure I think they should be lifting heavy and doing lots of circuit training as Serena and Venus do in their offseason. Also they practice in the day in the sun and we live in (San Antonio TX. 100 degree temps.
100degree temps,i know for a fact that certain track teams in the texas area avoid training in such peak times due to the heat and chances of severe dehydration.what exactly is involved during the 3hours a day routine.fitness and strenght play a huge rolei tennis and i just hope that her coach is addressing these issues
her coach doesn’t believe that weights are as important as working out on the court. She doesn’t know how to express to her coach that if they workout everyday in the sun acutally the metabolism is running fast and if you are doing nothing to build muscle your body can just burn it thus by the time you get in-season you are too weak from not working weights in the off-season
sis firstly i believe to focus on the game first,as in technique.it applies to track, football, tennis, golf.get the technique correct then add sessions to add power/speed etc.of course she is getting alot of on-court practice but after a while it can get very boring doing the ususal things day in day out.
what are the top players doing.look into there training and you’ll begin to see a trend in the way they approach the sessions.alot of players do turnabout runs adding the cardiov end of things.i have seen players doing reaction drills, short bursts’ over 5m in different directions.
somehow she will have to discuss with her coach how she feels about the training.there is no point in training if the athlete is not pleased with the situation.approach the coach and spill the beans.maybe he has a logic point or maybe hes unaware of how the athlete feels!
