tennis conditioning and serving power

I have a friend who is questioning on what type of running she should do to improve her quickness and what is just the most important running of all. I watched charlie’s videos and concluded that she just need to do short sprints because I think the conditioning is like hockey sort of if you watched the video and seen the graph. So what kind of workout for running do you think she should to because she is doing miles and I told here that aerobics are not going to help. It is very bad for exsplosive power. Also she wants to improve her serve.

??? Thoughts

How about a weighted tennis racket?

as tennis has alot of side to side and overall general movements i would include side to side drills, reaction drills and general movement drills.reaction must also be work on to dictate before the shot has even been taken.just remember that a tennis player never runs in a full upright position because the target is maximum 10m away.stand starts, lying starts and any other drill which will enable the player to reach x target quicker

about the serve.the serve is like a golf swing.with adaquate strenght in place(nothing exceptional),technique and timing will dramatically increase the serve.to improve technique go back to my old friend-the camcorder and use the basics of the technique and apply them to your own swing

ive been asked to help a tall 6’3 16year tennis player, who is lacking some speed in his game.

i was thinking that because of the mechanics on running in tennis, i would just go through,
speed agilty cone drill with him.

is there any need to do straight line sprinting aswell.

in the graph “high intensity training for sport”
it shows even olypmic lifters and throwers needing sprints of up to 20m-25m, so would this also apply for tennis???

Far too many female tennis players have frankly horrible serve mechanics. This is almost certainly the area to focus on to improve serve.

thanks i hear what your saying, but ill leave that to the tennis coach’s, i was just approached to help this guy out with some around the court speed!

first of all this freind, how old, and you can improve her movement, but the game is up to
her…

as per anyone serves game, its all about the toss and the follow threw.

we need to more about this “FREIND”

ciao

Most of the time, these issues can be solved simply by getting stronger in the basic lifts (squats, DL, bench). All of the time he spends on the court will take care of the specific movement patterns.
