I have noticed that around 16-18 years of age, female athletes undergo this transformation in which it is difficult to shed bodyfat. I know that estrogen levels are probably spiking and some of this is uncontrollable, but what can be done from a nutritional standpoint to minimize bodyfat composition and unnecesary weight gain without altering natures natural processes inappropriately.
I had one girl whos 100m time slowed by one half a second in one year. There may be other factors but I have noticed this happening several times in the past with other female athletes and I don’t really know what to do.
SPorts nutritionist, physicians, and other experts please respond
This can be influenced by the type and degree of training that has taken place up to that point. This is also the time when many girls go on the pill, which can cause problems, especially if a stronger pill is used to avoid spotting etc. No matter what, a balanced diet, strong on protein can mitigate problems.
CF, I don’t know why I did not think of that. The school I work in outside of coaching is for teen parents. I should have known this. It all makes sense though.
THanks
Okay, here is another question. Usually bodybuilders are encouraged to intake 1.5 grams of protein per lb of body weight day. WHat would you prescribe to a high school track athlete.
I have one student (female) who need not add another shred of muscle and the other who is this and new to lifting this year (and still the fastest on the girls squad).
