Tamgho, 22, was involved in an altercation with a female athlete, whose name has not been revealed, in southern France this October.
The World indoor triple jump champion will miss the chance to retain his indoor title in Istanbul from March 9-11. But Tamgho will be eligible to compete in next year’s Olympics, which commence in July.
A spokesperson said: "He expressed his regrets and acknowledges the verdict. He is suspended for 12 months as of November, six of them suspended.
“He has also been handed a fine of £1,252 and 50 hours of community service.”
The spokesperson said that Tamgho has already fulfilled the minimum qualification standards for London 2012, meaning he remains a potential candidate to represent France at the Games.
The federation confirmed they are yet to take the decision on whether to select him or not.
Tamgho, who now trains in Florida, broke his ankle in July and was ruled out of the World Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea.
