Suddenly not as fast...

Seems like every year this time…im just not as fast… Todays speed session and saturday’s did not feel fast at all… I also feel a little tighter than usual…

Any things you can throw at me to help me out? Also got a meet thursday.

You might be over training or some recent injury’s have held your speed up.

no injuries, over training is hard to tell.

the experiences guys here, what are quick things you notice when overtraining?

You feel tired and fatigued during your warm up. Also feels like this getting up in the morning. Excessive soreness is good indicator of OT.

CFTS goes into details about the signs of overtraining.

I need to get the manual ASAP.

I dont feel that tired during the warm up…generally fine, sometimes have though.

When do you feel tired?

throughout the day i have…in the morning but not very often.

however something very new, last few days, is tightness! ive stretched and stretched and done dynamic stretches and EVERYTHING but just so damn tight! glutes, quads, hips, hams, i get rid of it for 2 secs before a sprint, then it comes bak…i sit down…it comes back…

I find that if i am tight sometimes stretching isnt the best solution. Thats were pool and therapy comes in handy. Contrasts are good also.

rupert has a degree in bannagement from CFTSU

What have lifting/sprint volumes been like weekly for the past say month or so if you can remember?

Any sleeping/eating/stress changes?

perceived rate of excursion, increased time needed to recover between workouts, increase in amount of sleep needed, sickness, etc can be signs of overtraining

Lifting for reasons out of my control had to be done days AFTER sprinting…for the last month, and speed volumes have generally been sort of high. They were all at maximal effort/speed and not sub maximal.

Lifting volumes have also been up and down, but all full body days. I’ve dropped weights down now, and my last session was on Sunday which was pretty much low volume as I did bench press, squat and used another machine similar to lat pull down.

I’ve slept 7-8 hours and dont feel tired when I sleep 7 hours.

Eating has stayed the same, high protein although lately my foods have been high saturated fat (pizza, burgers, junk, etc.) but protein and other nutrition is still there.

Stress…well couple things on my mind but dont think that has anything to do with it.

I would say I havent had too much recovery inbetween workouts perhaps. Today Im resting for the meet on thurs, and have a schedule speed session on saturday, I need help as to what to do AFTER the meet and how many days it be good to take off.

Contrast shower I will do today, but any other ideas as of what to do for my tightness before the race/s?

If we go back to your original post

2 things of note.
You state every year so it appears there is a planning issue.

Secondly you say it ‘feels’ slower, what are your times like? Objective data is what you need, you may actually not be slower at all.

Well volume of speed work this years came up at end of February and now starting to drop down and of course intensity at 100%. I “feel” slower both top speed and acceleration wise, but more so top speed. Not too many times unfortunately to base this off of…however slower against competitors that im usualy farther ahead against or last night…someone who I can beat, had me to the 50-55m mark of a 60m race, and I barely got ahead in the last 1-2 strides. I know for sure that Im running a little slower.

It looks like your overworked, but hey i’m not entirely sure though. Are you doin ice baths and the whole to get recovered? Maybe you need to drop intensity??? How many times are you working speed & speed endurance over a two week span? and are you doing any tempo running?

well over one week it can be tues/thurs/sat, so 6/14 days, but we’ll say 5 on average. 4 times I’d be at 100% top speed or sometimes 5.I think contrast showers help me and I gotta be doing them! Tempo was being done a lot more earlier, however it is tapered down now, and done very little.
