Subliminal programing.

Does anybody here think that subliminal programing could help somebody become a faster runner or stronger lifter? A lot of people don’t believe this sort of thing and anything to do with sports phsycology makes a lot of athletes cringe. Maybe it could help somebody become a more relaxed runner, or train better with weights. Does anybody have any thoughts on this? I’ve had hypnotherapy (similar to subliminal affirmations on tapes that u can’t hear), and it helped me with a phsycological situation. I’m not so sure though if subliminal programing could make somebody a faster or stronger athlete. Maybe I need a dose of sports “reality”, or maybe there’s something in it. I’ll try and find a usefull link.

(scroll down to sports link near bottom of page.

But more importantly, can somebody tell me how to do links?

I know I’m going on, but there are better sites than the two I printed above, I saw one that had recordings for strength training., and showed the affirmations/wording that is used on the tape. Anybody interested in the subject might be better of doing a search through google.

Goose, personnally i think this sort of work is essential but hasn’t really caught on yet in track.ok DB had this work leading up to the duel with MJ.in golf this plays a huge part if a players game and it will follow to track and field.the british olympic team have a top sports phys working with all the top athletes.in the past i have tampered with this treatment and long-term it works, definitly

Just one word of caution - this is definitly an area a knowledge can be a dangerous thing.
Consulting with a good pysch early on before embarking on any program would be well reccomended.
As x says this approach is matbe not as comon in t&F as other sports.
Check out publications by people like Steve Backley and Phil Jackson for introductions to the APPLICATION of psych. in sport.

I would suggest looking at Murphy´s book - The Power of Your Subconscious Mind. It is quite old, but he uses simple language to explain how to use and train your subconscious in many situations. I bet his work has been `diagonalised´ by many of the well known self help gurus.

James Loehr’s stuff is interesting too, and of course Orlick and Gary Mack.
I haven’t read Baum (The Mental Edge) yet - Carson - anyone?
One area that hasn’t been addressed (well publicly anyway here in Europe) much in relation to sports is NLP.
There is one book published on it - but the name escapes me and I haven’t read it either.
Maybe someone can post a review

I read a book on NLP & sports, entitled (quite appropriately!):-

NLP And Sports
by Joseph O’Connor

I thought it well written, interesting and filled with excercises to support the authors theory.

However, didn’t Charlie once say something along the lines of that physical preperation is the first, second, third, fourth, fifth…all the way up to 99th most important factor. It is after this that psychology and other esoteric factors come into play?

Maybe Charlie’s right - but I don’t think they are mutually exclusive.
They could/should be developed simultaenously.

Btw. - NLP for sport - Worth buying?

Yes, if you are interested in this area you could do a lot worse! As I said, I personally found it a good read. It is also quite reasonably priced.

Check the motivation thread as well.

Perhaps actually listening to subliminal tapes (the words can barely be heard under the music), or hypnotic tapes might be more beneficial than reading the books on that same subject.

goose the music or sounds in the background are essential.the type of music has been chosen specifically to cue the sub-conscious thus leading for the speech to have a glueing effect on the mind.its amazing treatment if done under the right person and results in whatever area you what to focus on will improve alot…
