Stupid people are vastly jealous of knowledgeable individuals, in part because they themselves are “Stupid people (who) have no respect for wisdom and refuse to learn”
I heard about this with the world being flat and the 1 guy who was right was killed for his “radical beliefs”. I often find this the case far too often in this day and age even moreso. When someone cannot argue their point they refute to belittling their opponents with insults that have no bearing on the topic of discussion.
I thought I would ask the forum members opinion on this and wether or not they have noticed this with coaches or athletes.
Projection: ‘The attribution of one’s own attitudes, feelings, or desires to someone or something as a naive or unconscious defense against anxiety or guilt’ or ‘projection: A defense mechanism, operating unconsciously, in which what is emotionally unacceptable in the self is unconsciously rejected and attributed (projected) to others.’
Overconfidence
‘The concept of overconfidence is based on a large body of evidence from cognitive psychological experiments and surveys showing that individuals overestimate their own abilites or knowledge as well as the precision of their information.’
Combination of those two explains what you see. It happens a lot, especially in western societies from what I gather, always has, always will imo. I may be overconfident and projecting myself though (I have done/been both many times before).
What do you define as stupid?
What do you define as knowledge?
What do you define as wisdom?
I can understand how one can be upset at a refusal to learn or discuss, but claiming that one has knowledge or wisdom is ignorance as well…Are people stupid or ignorant if they have different ideas and one is unable to persuade them otherwise?
