Great 100m. Asafa got out on Bolt, big time! Won in 9.88 to Bolt 9.89 with a very fast close.
Must not have been ideal conditions as the rest were far back. Interesting reflection on the US tials- Padgett was 10.29.
I guess padgett is jet lagged. or they were running 96 meters at us trials.
Asafa really got out and bolt ate him up the last 10. I think asafa let up some when he looked up at the big screen and saw bolt he dipped.

same thing happening after he got hurt last year…first the first part of his race comes, then as he gets fitter his entire ran comes together, right now first 60m is amazing…at the ols, he’ll be ready for 9.7’s maybe faster…
his dip actually cost him i believe, his last 10m was very sloppy…
There’s something strange with having a +1.6m/s in every quarter final while lots of people have huge PBs. Reminds me of the US Olympic Trials in '88, except the wind gauge was working for the men’s race(s).
quinley jumps 8.36m, then goes to europe and jumps 2 meets in the 7.40m’s. Phillips jumps 8.20m at trials, then comes last with 7.7something in the goldan league meet…
look what happend with last olympics in the triple…usa trials had a REDICULUS competition, 17.80m’s and huge jumps like that, then they went to the games, and jump low to high 16m’s…
and they wonder why europe doesnt take much notice of results in the united states sometimes…
I red in T&FN forum that Asafa reaction time was 0.108 (clearly fastest that was he is used to) and Bolt 0.181 (close to what he did during the WR). But my feeling is that Bolt felt he did a slow start, but was only in comparison to the unusual great RT by Powell.
you would think they would be in there 3spp getting ready for olympics so they wouldnt be at the best. But im sure once the olympics start theyll be on ther game.
I would think especially the way the american system works they would have to do more than a mini peak. It probably took a lot out of those guys. Also how about the experience of those guys on the european circuit, do they have much exposure to how the grand prix is and the type of environment.
idk, the trials were pretty much the main goal of the season for all of the guys except tyson gay and perhaps dix, it really could have been an all or nothing deal.
theres not much point in gettnig 4th or 5th or 6th at the trails and then running a huge pr a month later when you arn’t selected for the olympic team.
lots of the college athletes seem to be having trouble with the long season.
dusty joanas who jumped a WL in the high jump earlier this year and won the third spot on the team on a jump off because the guys who got 2nd and 4th at the trials didn’t have the A(the 2nd guy got the standard like a week after the trials…lol), he bombed out at like 2.17m last week over in europe.
