Starting position

If blocks are not available, is a 4 point crouching start effective?

Yes i think it would be better than starting from standing but it depends how old the athlete is. If they are not strong enought to raise thier centre of gravity then perhaps not.

It probably depends on the race, the age and experience of the athlete, etc.

I would use a 3- or 4-pt stance for anything less than 800 meters.

A 3-pt start seems a little easier for beginners to learn.

3 or 4 point I’d go with. With a standing start you’re already upright and since you’re reacting to the gun you can’t roll in, you have to stand straight.

can always use a mixed start routine…
inc falling starts it will get you in correct position and angle…

or better still at times do them on an incline early on in the season this will serve them well…

depends on the age of your athletes but they will need to have strength in place as tc mentioned

Ok i see… thanks for all the replies…
i just find the 4point start more comfortable i don’t know why… and yes i am strong in the gym (bw 74kg full squat 172.5kg, and have been oly lifting without a coach for like 8-9 months with a powerclean at @ 100kg, and full clean around 120kg)… thing is i haven’t sprinted for a while!- well for a year- (so i think i suck…).
look at my starting position… don’t u think my back leg is way too far behind at the start?
