From ‘‘1981aLaN’’, the undisputed champ of videos

All kinds there. Ben’s 10.00 at 1985 World Cup & 9.95 from 1987 Cologne. MJ running a 100m in Stockholm in the 90s, MJ vs Frankie at NCAA Champs 200, Carl Lewis 19.75 celebrating at 180m~, loads

Bailey winning a 200m in 20.14. I was surprised at that - definitely think that he could’ve run 19.9 in the event with more attention to it

How come Bailey didnt do much training for the 200m?

I am still waiting to see a Charlie Francis race.

They didn’t have film then- but sometimes they’d run a series of photos on pages and if you flipped through them really fast, it would look like motion.

LOL, come on Charlie your not that old. I was wondering though, you must have had a lot of chicks going to Stanford and being part of the track team. Heck when I went to VCU and failed almost everything (then) even “The Guy” could get chicks. Even though I had almost nothing going for me except my good looks. Yes “The Guy” is very good looking. How was it at Stanford?

And yes “The Guy” is a proper noun.

Thank U!

Finally Carls 19.75 sec.
I’ve heard so much about about that race…

Any thoughts on how much time he gave up there?

Not much. .10 tops and that’s pushing it.

Not using your arms has more impact on your stride in the final 20m of 200m than in the last meters of 100m, since you are running much slower at that point, and your arms are more important for the stride frequency

I would say as his gap to next runner stays about the same from that point on, it might have cost him 0.10-0.12 if he had really pusehd it.
That would have been 19.63-19.65 WR

Carl came close to the record again in 1984 with a 19.80 sec and in 1988 with a 19.79 sec…both Olympic Finals.

There has been some talk on the forum about Carls 200m training and how little he did specifically for this event.
