Do you use spike race shoes in sprint training or do you think it’s better to use more supportive shoes…like middle-distance spike shoes?
Any suggestion is welcome.
Thank you

I watched my friend run a PR of 6.72 for 60m in distance shoes that were heavier than the average sprint shoes, which was a PR over .10 for him.
What does that have to do with your question you ask? Probably nothing.
I know a lot of sprinters who train in distance spikes (not the 4 ounce spikes, with no ankle or sole support… but the heavier old school nike distance spikes with thicker bottoms, that weight more). I dont even know if they sell them anymore to be honest.
Some of the new age sprint and distance spikes have very little support. So I guess it would depend on the model.
I dont know, as for me, I train in sprint spikes.
Man just use your running shoes, until your 100% ready to sprint, then yes me and my team mates use spikes, but not on every speed day, jsut tha ones dealing with exceleration. and top end speed like flys and the such.
Do you do any speedwork in flats? Im just wondering?
My highschool coach (30 years undef. national coach of the year numerous times) was real strict about wearing flats. Even on SE days. Im not sure whether I agree with that, but you can’t argue with his results.
Yeah to clarify, I use flats on tempo days, and flats for anything other then speed work, or sub max SE. Even for strides prior to speed work, then a few strides in spikes.
Thats personally just what I do. I used to know a sprinter that used spikes on tempo days while training indoors. Shame on him, he got a very nasty case of shin splits and had to sit out for about two months.
The Guy…
I like the idea of not wearing spikes until ready to sprint. That goes for people learning to sprint and those who have experience and are finishing gpp. Just so that you can learn proper mechanics first, without the aid of the sprint spike pushing your foot to land correctly. But once your in spp, were them for practices. Practice how your gonna compete. It may a placebo effect but i feel faster when i wear spikes. So to get your body used to running at faster speeds to improve, why not do it.
