Soy protein?

I have heard many negative things about soy protein, mostly about its estrogenic effects. I was wondering what other people think about soy protein and if it is worth avoiding in food. However, almost everything these days contains some type of soy lecithen or isolate which imakes it very difficult to cut of a diet. Thoughts?

The bio-availability is rather low when compared to traditional protein sources (meat products), but if you are trying to cut back animal products, which would be my only reason on focusing on soy intake, then you need to do what you need to do.

All things considered, eggs and canned tuna (yes canned) yields significant absorbable protein. If you are looking for supplementation during workout, whey protein is great choice due to higher glycemic response. (insulin suppresses cortisol and also spares protein from gluconeogenesis).

If you are a vegetarian, then you should focus on dairy (unless vegan…then goodluck) and eat 10-15% more grains and dark veggies to get the less abundant amino-acids to get enough protein.

Long story short, avoid large soy intakes due to the lack of availability and absorption.

Amlost all breads, pastas, protein supplements, even bumblebee tuna, contain some sort of soy in them, my question is if it would be benefial to cut them out of my diet in order to stay away from its pro-estrogen effects?

I dont think you need to worry about cutting them out entirely. Like you said, it is found hidden in many day-to-day food items you would never assume. These numbers are minimal if you are taking in enough animal/dairy protein.

I wouldnt worry about these and their pro-estrogen effects (if again, they are not the majority of your proteins).
