Soft bone?

As many of you might know, I’ve been suffering from shin splints since January 2006. Well, as of late, my shins have felt amazing…in fact, they havent bothered me in over a MONTH! However, I haven’t sprinted during this time…I have done a few tempo sessions on the track just fine though.

Anywaysss, I was just feelin out my tibia and it feels soft…like I can push into it and it feels like a hard jelly almost. If I push hard enough into it, I can make a big “dent” in the bone that takes some time to go away(15-60 min? dunno) . It doesn’t hurt though…and my shins don’t really bother me much anymore. It spans the length of the ENTIRE tibia…however its most noticeable in the middle third.

Is this a phase to recovery…?

Not sure if it’s related at all…but I’ve been wearing knee sleeves lately for a different injury…

That sounds like (pitting) edema to me. If your actual tibia was that soft it would have fractured a long time ago.

Causes of peripheral edema are:

* high hydrostatic pressure of the veins, leading to poor reabsorption of fluid
o venous obstruction, e.g. deep vein thrombosis (typically one-sided)
      o congestive heart failure
      o varicose veins
o asymmetric compression of thigh and leg (e.g., knee pads, tight jeans)

“knee pads”

I guess thats it!!!
