Slower 100m times

we have been seeing somewhat slower times this year in the mens 100m, i was wondering if the reason could be that all the main guys are focused on peaking in Athens '04. now of course even if that was the plan they would still have a peak in the outdoor season (championships), but it still wouldn’t be the same as if their plan was say for the year after an olympics where they could control their program a bit more and not have to worry about the olympics in one year. does this make any sense, or can they all easily peak at the outdoor championships this summer and tailor their program to where they are peaking at the right time in Athens?

ESPN- look at all the world records…they are done much earlier…besides you peak later to make more money on the circuit…why peak at non GL meets?

Does anyone think that everyone will be peaking very hard in Paris and by that i mean that they’ll drops 0.1s off their times to get medals. HSI use to have Mo and Ato running 9.8s in May through Sept but this year is seems that 10.1-9.9 high will be all we see and then Paris will see everyone’s true shape.

Another comment. Will Dwain Chambers lighten up in terms of his weight between now and Paris? He’s always been very thick through the arms, legs and trunk but now he appears to more muscled than ever. Has he put on the weight to protect himself between now and Paris and to assist in his peak? Is it too risky for him to lose the weight too quickly and dramatically lose strength? What effect does that extra weight have on joints and supporting tendons? I remember reading, in the days before the T&F program in Sydney, that Ato would eat a lot in an aim to gain weight before the start of the competition? Why would he feel the need to do that?

Was it me or did Dwain Chambers take about 9 or 10 steps in the first 10 meters at The PreFontaine meet?

What are your concerns about this RMT? Anything in particular that bothers you about that race. 10 steps is way to much.

As for eating habits…remember that travel makes things very tough…this morning we ate at a corporate cafe at the Wells center…sometimes if you don’t have a big breakfast you don’t eat that day!
