From watching his 400m guys go 'round a few years ago. A lot of long fast work.

Enough intensity in there for you?? And this is during the comp period!

attached is the program from Michael himself for his 200/400m guys leading into 2000 games.

and check out the actual volumes, and all of the back to back neural days… enough intensity in there for a couple of sprinters…

The scary part is that ignorant coaches or athletes might read such a published program and try to follow it.

Bill Sweetenham? He’s the British head coach for swimming.

From the stuff I have picked up from this site, is the thursday workout not TOO MUCH considering there is a race Sat.

I hope the guys that UKA are forcing to and training with Khamel dont get hurt doing this kind of traning?

I dont know that a lot of British athletes would be strong enough to do this or am I wrong in thinking this?

A little too much Thurs- and every other day too!

I’m pretty sure it was the coach of Alex Popov… who i think is called Gennadi Touretski but i could be wrong.

Good luck to the british athletes under Khamel Hope he has changed is training since then.

Also Charlie is there any relevance to explosive weights (moving it fast) on the weds.

Does it matter how fast you move the weights or is this a bone of contention in track and other sports?

This is what I’ve been saying for years. Varying the speed of weights only matters when you do nothing else!! When you sprint, accelerate, do plyos, explosive med ball, you’re covered already without the risk inherent in explosive weights.

Thats sound a very good point. To add to that the speed of moving the weights might never be as fast as the other training types you have mention,so why do it?

How long did he last on this before succumbing to injury?

If he could last even a year on that, I think it would be a testament to his sheer natural ability.

I’ve overtrained on a bit less than that in probably 4-6weeks.

Touretski is the correct name of Popov’s coach. He has had a drinking problem which is the other reason he’s been in the news in the past. Plus as a Russian he would have had a bond with Khemelenko.

But the biggest influence by far on Khmel’s training ideas has been Pfaff. And that’s apparent from the progrm which has been posted.

Both guys have their critics, but both have also had their triumphs.

I read somewhere that Khamel greatest achievement would possible be SHIVO. I am not sure what the CW 400m champ ran with him but he was not with Khamel when he ran 44.6 earlier this year, so not being rude what exactly are his triumphs?
Anyone?

KK might have some more qualified info on this but prior to his leaving i think he had 4 of the 5 athletes in the 4 x 400m squad in sydney.

plus shirvo obviously at 10.03.

he noticeably had limited success with females many who went to train there broke down before to long, only gloria kemosuade could handle the workload before she was deported back to Nigeria.

Below is the Pre Comp Weights for 2000

She probrably would have broken down if she was not deported!!!

I woulnd’t be so sure of that. The strongest trees have deep roots. Khmel had I believe 4-5 atheltes under 46 in the 400m at one point and 3/4 of the Ozzy 4x400m team plus Daniel Batman and most of the other up and coming Ozzy tallent. We can argue about his loading protocols but he installs good basic movement skills, attention to detail and work ethic in the athletes he coaches.
