SET position, plus first 5 steps

here’s a start from a 400m. Note the head is aligned with the spine, eyes looking about 12-18" from the start line, the left hand moves a fraction of a second before the right foot. Blocks were 2 foot back for front leg, 3 foot back for rear leg.

Comments include: long first step? shoulders looking tight, not relaxed?

Looks good!
What is your weight distribution from your feet to your hands? Also what are your PB’s?

thanks,
Chris

fj looks ok.set position is good, maybe could move the front block forward x1 to get an angle of around 90degrees.first step i find is landing too far ahead of itself.all the top sprinters are landing under thenselves from go,you’ll get a blocking effect if you land in front.all i can say is just practice running from the blocks and also practice standing starts

I think it’s a good start and I wouldn’t change it for now.

hey fjlee, what meet was this? are you going to be at berkeley this weekend?

fastdude_24:

good eye! it was the 1st Berkeley meet in February this year.

Yes, I will be there this Sunday at the Mark Grubi meet.

the shoulders are actually leaning over the arms (at about 95-100 degree angle) at the set position, so once the left arm explodes upwards, the forward momentum takes over.

thus, the weight distribution is probably more towards the arms/hands than the feet… 60/40?

Best of luck!!! Let us all know how you do!!!

I doesnt look bad to me. But its the 400m…so it would be nice to see this athlete come out of the blocks full speed. It looks like he pops up to tell you the truth. Probally do to the fact he conserving energy for the rest of the race. But who doesnt popup when your not coming out 100%. Other then that he looks comfortable in the blocks. Which brings up a goodpoint what is the strategy out of the blocks for the 400m dash?
