Sacro Illiac Joint Inflammation

I believe I have some slight inflammation of the SI joint, more specifically on the left side…

I have some tenderness around the joint on that side, as well as slight pain that radiates down the left glute.

Some activities that irritate it most seem to be of late anything that puts pressure on the spine. Sprinting, walking, etc doesn’t hurt. Squatting not much of a problem if I have a belt on. Some days it’s painful, some days it’s not a problem. But I’ve had it off and on for almost 7-8 months…

Basically I am able to train, but I know it’s there… (annoying)

Chiro my best bet to get this fixed? Anyone have any prior experiences with this? I’d like to get my ‘nagging’ injuries fixed before August/football season. Thanks in advance.

Chiro can help you with a structural correction, but if you have tenderness or fibrosis (electric disturbance) local injection (prolotherapy or neuraltherapy) can be a better and fast choice.

Go see a physical therapist who specializes in manual therapy. They will be able to correct any structural abnormality (i.e. rotation of the ilium) and help prevent it from happening again.

Thank you, I’ll look into that.

Thanks, I definitely want this to get fixed so it doesn’t happen again.

This thread is well timed as I’m having the same problems myself. The inflamation is on the rightside. I feel the tenderness in the insertion at the top of the quad. I’ve had session up session of manual release work and massage. This keeps the problem at bay for 3 days and then it flares up again around Thursday causing a lot of probs in my lower back.

What I’ve been recommended to do to keep things at bay is keep the SI joint moving by doing figures of eight with the leg (while standing) and glute activation work as well as tissue/stretch work on the psoas and hipflexor area and around the glute min/med area. I use a hockey ball to work the glute and lay on the hockey ball to get into the hipflexors. Hope this helps…there’s only so much pain killers you can take…
