Had a mates athlete rupture it on saturday, having surgery today.
The only sprinter I know who had similar injury was Damian Marsh in 1996, and trying to get in contact with people who could provide assistance or advice in the matter.
Donovan Bailey ruptured his in 1998. If I remember correctly he competed only a year later but never broke 10 seconds again. Maybe the Canadians on the forum have some details.
Put him in touch as soon as you can (right after surgery) with Denis Thompson at www.arpwave.com
I personally worked with a master kung fu fighter who sustained an 85% rupture of the tendon,as well as a 3cm tear in the calf muscle at the same time.By ARP System work only we managed to avoid any surgery and 100% recovered him to continue his professional activity with full function in less than 60 days.
He did run 9.98 (-0.7) again in 2000. Moreover, Kajsa Bergqvist jumped 2.08 (indoor world record) after an achilles tear, but there are also many examples of athletes who never got back to pre-injury performance standards.
i treated a mixed martial arts fighter, after he had surgery.
it takes times, back you will have to get a good therapist and work smart if you wanna get back running to what you were.
I don’t think traveling to the US or Canada or Europe is an option.
The athlete had surgery in Hobart on Monday, his coach (my mate) is looking at rehab stuff as we speak, just trying to find out what is likely to happen post surgery - physically, mental and the meaning of life.
I have torn my calf before - around 3/4inch i believe.
Using principles i picked up from CF and from else where, i was back to 90% speed with one month, and full speed 6wks.
Mind you, i didn’t have surgery, and it was just the muscle and not the tendon.
