LONDON, April 4 - Lee Bowyer could be fined a record STG200,000 by Newcastle for his part in the brawl with team-mate Kieron Dyer.
Newcastle officials were reported to believe midfielder Bowyer was to blame for the punch-up nine minutes from the end of Saturday’s clash against Aston Villa at St James Park.
And Newcastle are ready to offload the former England star this summer.
Bowyer, 28, will forfeit six weeks wages, around $US200,000 - the biggest fine a British club has ever dished out to a player.
But Newcastle are ready to appeal against Dyer’s red card in a bid to get him available for the FA Cup semi-final with Manchester United on April 17.
Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd and manager Graeme Souness were to meet Dyer and Bowyer on Monday.
You can take it from me, I'm a very angry man. I need to see them face-to-face before making any decision,'' Shepherd told English newspaper The Sun.
There will be no kangaroo court. I don’t want to speculate on anyone’s future at this stage.’’
The flashpoint took place after Dyer failed to pass to an incensed Bowyer, who then waded in with fists flying.
Dyer, 26, appeared to defend himself but seemed to throw at least one punch.
In the last week, Bowyer has split with his fiancee Kathleen Baker and the ex-Leeds bad-boy could use this in mitigation.
Bowyer is unlikely to be sacked by Newcastle but his days at the club are numbered.
Newcastle were not expected to punish Dyer until they see the outcome of their appeal.
Both players are also facing FA charges.
