race day...

thanks mate, you’re a great help…

100m: 12.49 (pb), 4th, -1.4w
200mR: DQ (2nd), ((edit: our time was 1:40.43s. we appealed the DQ successfully))

just got back from a night out with the boys celebrating another successful season for the club. we were able to win the shield in the women’s U18 and the men’s open division 3 (my division  ).

pretty happy with my pb. I told myself I wouldn’t be too happy if I went over 12.5s, so I just got in there :stuck_out_tongue: ! I had a steady race into yet another headwind. I hit the start ok and ran well in the middle, although I think I lost speed over the last 10m.

our 200m relay team finished second, although we were DQed, but I think that was for not feilding teams in div 1 and 2.

anyway, we came away with two shields and I snagged a pb, so all in all it was a pretty good day…

good work on the PB especially into that wind.

Excellent mate.

It a great way to finish off your first season back.

Look out next year!

veteran’s league, knox

300m: 44.28s, 5th
80m: 9.73s, 1st

still hungry for competition, I decided to tag along with stormy and pad out the sprint numbers and give him a bit of competition. by his own admission, it’s really a long distance club, but the atmosphere down there was really positive and I had a good time.

my training partner came along as well, but he had a bit of a mishap with his house key and couldn’t get inside to get his running gear!

actually, he told me a funny story the other day. when he and his wife were at stawell she went up to kyle vander kuyp and asked him “can I please have your autograph, patrick?”

he was obviously amused, and the three of them, along with otis gowa, buddied up and hung out together for the weekend.

the big news is that I finished my race 0.01s faster that the world record for the 100m! now I’ve just got to do that over 100, rather than 80, and I’ll be right.

anyway, tonight I met stormbikes and raced him a couple of times. he won the 300m and I took out the 80m, so it was some good competition. next week is a 400/60 double, so I think I’ll be up for that again. hopefully my partner can get his act together and have a run as well…

Were these FAT times? If yes, your 80m time suggests you’re in sub 12s 100m shape now. Well done! The 300m indicates a substantial lack of fitness, though, probably due to unsufficient tempo running. Even with only half-decent fitness, a sub 12s 100m sprinter should run the 300m in well under 40s.

Sincerely,
Robin.

it was handtimed, which suggests (I think) about 12.2s form.

the reason for the slow 300m time was:
a) it was run at warm up pace because the 80m was only 15min later
b) I was in flats
c) I ate too much rice before hand… :stuck_out_tongue:

( edit: d) not enough tempo )

wednesday

knox masters
200m: 1st, 26.14s (h)
60m: 1st, 7.74s (h)

I ran ok tonight, although I am developing a healthy mistrust for these handtimed results. I didn’t feel as though I ran as fast as a 7.74s in the 60m (I pulled up a bit as my hammy tightened slightly), and I certainly ran harder in the 200m. regardless, I’m pretty happy with the result. I came out of the blocks much better, and you can’t do much better than to win 2 from 2. I think stormy ran 3rd and 2nd, but I’m not sure.

I was certainly feeling the lactic attack after the 200m, though. reinforced to me just how much extra fitness work I need to do. more stomach churning 200’s and hard 150’s. gotta love that pain…

44s 300- your 300 need some work ?

possibly, but that time is no indication of what I could have run. I basically jogged it…

Thats what I thought based on your 26s 200.

wednesday
knox masters
65s event -3rd from 350m 63.2s
100m - 1st 12.6h

the 65s event is a bit of a novelty race where the idea is to nominate your distance and cross the line as close to 65s as you can (no watches allowed, obviously). I cruised 350m in 63.2s, so I was pretty close. stormy actually won it in 63.9s.

the 100m was interesting. I was a bit tight from putting my back out yesterday (careless lapse of concentration), so the plan was to run relaxed, which I did. I was quite happy to run 12.6 as easily as I did and in such cold conditions. also, the starter was a bit premature and when the gun went off I was barely on my mark, let alone set!

I’m strongly considering signing up for the australian masters games to be held in feb-march of next year…

masters
sprints
60m 1st 7.71s h
3x200mx2 (about28s each?) 2nd of 2

was pretty happy with my 60m tonight, especially since I was feeling a bit tight in the lead up. I hit the start pretty well again, so I’m getting much more confident and consistent in that area. didn’t do any practice starts, but I was confident I could get it right first up. the usual doubts about the validity of the time remain, but on this occasion I have reason to believe that there was a bit taken off and a bit added on, so it was probably about right in the end!

the second event was interesting. 3 runners per team, each running 2x200m. I did mine at a reasonable pace (against the advice of stormy :stuck_out_tongue: ), but we had “fast” eddie* (a 74 year old shuffler) in our team, so we were doomed from the outset. stil, I viewed this as a good training exercise…

(*was a brilliant runner in his day. used to train with herb elliot, amongst others)

masters
200m: 1st, 25.52h

pretty happy with my run tonight, especially given the ill health and setbacks I’ve had lately…

doncaster masters
80m 1st 9.8h
150m 1st (sort of) 19.2h
300m 4th 45.9h

got a really good start in the 80m, and was pretty happy with the run overall. possibly could have dug a little deeper, but then maybe I would have tightened up. the 150m was an ‘estimate your time’ event, so even though I was first over the line my estimate was waaaay off, so I wasn’t actually the winner. I was feeling a bit grotty for the 300m and didn’t recover too well (:o ), but given the last few weeks that’s no surprise. stormbikes smashed me over that one…

You are too kind - i may have beaten you by a second and a half but it’s not really your distance now is it. You caned me in the 80

SB:)

it’s not the first time you’ve beaten my butt over that distance. your longer legs seem to really help you out there. perhaps I need to make it a minor mission to beat you over 300m… :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m sure it wouldn’t take that much to achieve that - HOWEVER! My mission must be to try and
beat YOU over 60m !!!

SB:)

saturday 18/10
round 1, frankston
100m: 12.21s, w? 1st pb
200m: 25.3h, w? 2nd
4x400m: ???

the scoring and timing has been pretty off, so I’ll have to wait a while to get more accurate results. overall, I’m pretty happy. I got a big pb in the 100m, despite missing the ground on about my 4th step :o . the ht result they gave me was 11.6, so I have been thinking for about 36hrs that I might have been <12, but I’m a lot wiser about how far off these hand timed results can be.

anyway, a pb in round 1…

good work. Mate those HT aren’t even close
