Question for David W

David W,

In a reply you made about in season weightlifting for a team sport athlete, you made the comment that you would incorporate snatches, so that you could work the upper body musculature, and ‘avoid those killer chin-ups’. I was wondering why you think chin-ups are so bad. This isn’t snide, I am really quite curious.

chinups are not bad, but you have to look at the impact that snatches have on improving qualities that will enhance performance

Pull ups (downs!) are an excellent exercise and essential if you don’t Olympic lift… but who likes doing them?

I think I must be some kind of freak!
I actually enjoy doing pull (chin) ups! It must be some kind of carry over from when I was training to join the Royal Marines. I used to have a chin bar in my bedroom, and as well as my regular training (5 sets, 25 reps) I was doing three or four chins every time I walked into my bedroom. I dont do any where near that volume now, but I always do 15-20 total in a day, including a couple when I got to bed, and wake up!
Let the abuse commence! LOL!

I love doing them too and I’m a coach

Me too DCW23! I love them despite the fact that I can’t do very many of them in a set. I see a lot of value in a number of bodyweight strength exercises and I believe chin-ups to be one of the best.

Pioneer & DCW,

Post your pics under thread:

“…battle of the lats!” :sing:

The gauntlet has been thrown down. :D:D

If I posted my picture, the lats would appear to be in the middle rather than under the arm pits. Wait, those are not lats afterall.

Looking fit DCW … it’s good to see a coach walk his talk
