I tried asking this in the EMS thread in the experts forum, but it seems no one is looking at that thread anymore, so I will try here:
Anyways, the machine I’m about to get can only go down to 2 seconds contraction and relaxation. Would that be ok for pulse mode, or is that contraction too long?
Also, from what I’ve heard, you can turn the thing down to 2 htz, and get 1/2 second pulses (I dont know how that works out, but thats what I heard from someone who owns one on here).
So, would 2 seconds (contraction and relaxation) be ok for pulse mode, and if not, would 1/2 second pulses be better (or work at all) for pulse mode? Thanks for any information.
I keep seeing these threads with potential EMS buyers hashing out all of the various specs so they can shop around for the cheapest machine to cover all their needs. I understand saving money, and it’s something I typically try to do with everything I buy, but having used EMS for the past year, I’ve got to suggest just buying a top-quality machine with a large variety of programs built in.
For example, the various Compex Sport models (400 is reviewed on the CF main page) come pre-programmed to handle just about any muscle training effect you’d want. Something to consider is that it’s a bit tedious to schedule EMS workouts. It’s not nearly as engaging as going out running, or throwing around iron plates. You basically sit there and press buttons for an hour. Having the more expensive, pre-programmed machine has been the impetus to use it on a very frequent basis. The Euro model I purchased also has rehab functions which work very well to relieve joint and muscle pain. All I have to do is continually crank up intensity while watching TV, typing posts like this, etc. I’m very doubtful that I would use it as much if I were adjusting dials and frequencies while referring back to the proper protocol for strength or endurance.
lol if the different in price was slight, that would be understandable. The Compex Sport 400 costs over $800 once you include the shipping and such. I’ve seen it being sold second hand (ebay, etc.) for about $600–that’s a little out of the price range for a high school / college guy for the cost/benefit ratio (may as well spend that money getting world class soft tissue therapy, depending on where you are, or consulting with Charlie!).
