Just a question, If there are particular forums that are locked and I want to post something on Strength Training then where do I post it? Would it be under General Fitness?

Side Note: Just out of curiosity why are some of the forums locked? I took a little 3 month vacation from the forum and everything is topsy-turvey!

I usually look thru equine training methods and I came across this article on Kaatsu training. Basically it’s stregnth training with blood pressure bands placed proximally on a limb with the pressure bands increased 20mmhg each session. The results on horses and humans show an increase in size and strength.

More important info:

The sudy on sprinters and jumpers done by Tokyo Metropolitan Universtiy:

They found that after 8 days:

Bone muscle increased in the legs
30m times improved by an average of .13 sec.

Jump performance did not improve for both groups in the study.

Has anyone ever heard of this? Is it for real?

I just thought is was interesting to experiment for GPP since hypertrophy (IN SOME CASES) and 30m times are main objectives for this training phase.

This method pumps the mucles up with blood. I’ve heard here that this “pump” is unfavorable for sprinters. Does any one care to share some info on why this is so?

Thanks

Is playing soccer bad for sprinters? I play every saturday from about 5 pm to 6:30-7pm. Is this detrimental to my sprinting performance in any way? By the way I play in midfield/defence.

IMHO, OffSeason I think soccer is good. Think about it. Acceleration, tempo…general fitness.

Alright tanxs

A stupid question: Do u think can lance armstrong win any running race if he trained abit for them when in his prime? like the 800m and up? With all that stamina hes got to be good at some long distance race :stuck_out_tongue:

If he trained, yes. He was a triathlete earlier in his career. Since cycling is different than running as far as weight bearing is concerned his lower body muscular, bones and joints would have to improve/change to adapt to a full weight-bearing sport. Add in an arm swing as well. I’m not sure he would be an elite athlete. Probably too old. But he would win some low-level races.

Oh ok, and I was refering to when he was in his prime by the way.

Oh, I skipped over that part of your post. In his prime? Elite? Who knows. I suppose with his mental disposition he could have been good. But it would have taken much time and training.

Hi All,

Quick question in relation to block starts:

Should the elbows be ‘locked out’ when crouched in a start position? Same with set - locked or flexed?

Probably the dumbest question i have asked so far but really…what is GPP?? Ive seen it tons of times since im on this board but I dont got the DVD and I cant find a thread where it explains what it is.

General Preparation Phase

I think Louie Simmons would disagree with you.

Maybe it’s General Physical Preparedness.

Last week I couldn’t even spell GPP.

This week I was doin it.

TNT

They should be relaxed. If you intentionally lock them out, they may be tensed, and the same can be said if you intentionally try to keep them bent at a certain angle. Much of it has to do with strength. The stronger you are, the more relaxed they will be in either case. But ya, the answer is that they should be relaxed.

I have heard both, and it probably doesn’t really matter, but…I looked it up in CFTS. Check out Figure 6-4 on page 94 and the question on page 103. In both places, he calls it General Preparation Phase.

Thanks alot peeps

If you send out a private message and click cancel on the “read receit/cancel option” does your email still get sent out?

Yes, you just don’t get a ‘read receipt’ notice.

Stupid Question: Which known athletes have Charlie ever coached?
