What are the exact steps on getting sponsorship from a company such as mizuno, nike, ect ect? Contacts ect. How do you go about it. Is there a director in each company that specificially deals with athletic/promations for their company. I need help? Anyone?
Question 1: Also would the first step be
to find a sports management company or agent? Or is this the coaches responsibility at first to get the athlete signed?
(Marion Jones, Tim Montgomery and Tim Harder are represented by this company?)

Question 2:
Does anyone have any contact info availabe for any of the top sponsors in the country for track and field. Or could anyone give anyone info on the process their athletes and themselves had to go through to get a professional deal?
the paradox of running fast without sponsorship is one of the things that limit athletes…
Timothy,
Run fast and they shall come! Unless you have some inside contact, you need to be a national level athlete. Take a look at the US list. There are several unattached athletes on there.
mj you are correct.post results and they will come.if you are consistantly doing well you will get noticed.
what do sponsers want??
advertisment! they will pick the people who are getting results and getting publicity.adverts means recognision for the companies in turn that means money or boost in sales for them.
You never know if you don’t ask though. Alot of companies are happy with regional promotions. If you are well known in your city, you can always hit up small businesses. 3 or 4 of those and you are well on your way.
Get some numbers and you may be able to get some lanes in international meetings. The more success you have in permit meetings, the greater the exposure.
Unfortunately, the IAAF system is very tough. Particularly if you are not ranked (e.g. T&FN) in this country!
