Prerace supplements used by some big dawgs

I’m not knocking the product - just be careful - it’s not medicine or sweets/candy.

Personally - like I said - it has too much caffeine and sugar for me and the report on taurine I read has convinced me to use it occasionally.

I’d can’t reference the study on Taurine - but I do rememeber it being from a reputable source (see below)-

  • as for the vodka and red bull - well put gasoline in a bright bottle tell people it is rocket fuel and idiots will mix and drink it too!!!

The reports regarding Taurine and the safety of Red Bull and it’s use I am referring to were released and publisied at the inquest into the collapse and death of an ametuer College basket ball player in Dublin, Ireland a number (3 or 4) of years ago after the consumption of (if my memory is right) at least 2 cans of Red Bull.

RED BULL WAS CLEARED OF ANY WRONG DOING ETC. and of any cause - but concerns were rasied by many in the sporting and medical profession about Red Bull - and the conflicting reports of the ingredients and effects of such doses (including Taurine) were raised.

If you look up some old archives you should be fit to find something.
I know it made me think twice about using it.

Very Interesting. I wonder do the ‘big hitters’ in this area have any information on this product. 716, Nightmare, Tom Green, others?

By the way - Did you know Coffee is the second most traded commodity worldwide after oil?

i agree with “athlete” on the red bull issue, it does mix well with vodka, but i wouldnt use it pre event. it is packed with sugar (very high GI) and if i was going to use it in an athletic situation, i may only use it for recovery purposes, but would much perfer any other recovery drink over the red bull.

people ask me all the time why they see so many athletes drinking it at races and meets, my answer, is its there. red bull has a very distinctive can, and you cna pick it up a mile away, and the marketing realizes this and makes sure if there are tv cameras around, there are always a few dozen cases of red bull on ice ready for athletes to sip on.

for pre-event, i would lean towards power drive or vitalyze well before redbull.

i am still waiting for my order of DL-PhenylAlanine to come in, and when i test drive it, i will post my feedback.

Red Bull now comes in a sugar free variety.

Or it does over here in the UK

I think it improves my endurance a little or it could just be placebo. I notice no difference in the 100m. I use the sugar-free.

I’ve just spent a little while trying to find some clear data on the effects of Red Bull.

Basically it is like everything else - if the the ingredients are understood and it is used sensibility there will be no problem.

It appears not to be dangerous and to be honest - I cannot find one conclusive report which categorically describes sensible use as hazardous.

But there are one or two notable media warnings:

This was the most amusing article though:

I used Red Bull today and got a PB. But before my 100 I was really really nervey. I probably would have done just as well without the drink.

I am very good friends with an elite level sprinter who uses a cocktail of 3 Vitalyze, and 2 Biostim and a can of RED BULL, 90 minutes before race time. He was running in the 10.30’s. In recent weeks he has consistently run in the 10. teens. He is only doing this on race days? no major side effects so far. Any comments? Tom Green, what do you think? 716? Charlie?

Biostim?

I was curious on the combination of Red Bull and Vitalize (3 cap)-

I have tried it personally with good effects-

But I have not had much feedback from athletes on the combination of the two together

I too would like to hear 716’s opinion on the subject

Muscleman,
That is too bad that your friend needs to use so much. What will he do without them when he needs to run fast?

dont laugh…

i have heard that sudafed is supposed to be a energerizer like supplement?
is this true?
could i take one before a meet/race/jump comp?

Vincente,

you obviously don’t understand the purpose of this forum. It is to share ideas, no to make judgements about things you know nothing about. Try to participate…not hate.

so let me get this straight… vitaliyze should only be used for meets to elicit the best response? so it wouldnt have the samer benefit if i took it for 1 or 2 of my speed workouts for the week?
and what is biostim?

Yes - What is Biostim???

Health Equinox

Description:
High-performance high-endurance sports are invigorating and demanding. In order for an athlete to have proper conditioning, they must have moderately conditioned levels of endurance capacity, maximal aerobic power, and highly conditioned levels of strength-endurance. Athletes looking for the highest level of performance need to adapt to the stress of training and competition as quickly as possible. This can be accomplished with Biostim. 60 Capsules List Price $39. 99 Our Price $29. 99 Biostim is a bio-stimulator with a rapid effect on the restoration of the energy balance in the human body. This effect delivers you natural energy to maximize your performance levels along with longer sustained endurance levels, improved recovery and higher mental acuity. This is accomplished by enhancing oxygen utilization and oxygen saturation of blood & tissue thereby increasing time to exhaustion while decreasing time of recovery. In other words, you can train longer, harder, and recover faster. Biostim also increases the functional activity of the heart and improves the respiratory function of the lungs without any adverse side affects. It enhances the consumption of oxygen during physical exercises and as an effect of its utilization facilitates the introduction of oxygen into body tissues. During periods of extreme physical and mental workloads and or mental and physical exhaustion, Biostim has an adaptagen effect which allows the body and mind to handle these extreme exertions. The influence of Biostim usually begins within one hour after ingestion and reaches its maximum effect between hours one and four and continues for an average of six hours. Biostim isn’t another energy supplement that pumps you full of harmful ingredients. It is though easily the most powerful supplement you can find in one capsule.

Muscleman,
I did not mean any disrespect. I very much understand the purpose of this forum. I have been here for the past year now. You are on post number 9 I believe. I was not making any kind of judgement on you or your friend. The question that I asked was something that every sprinter who uses supplements at one time or another must think about.
