Hi there !
I was offered to run a new stadium’s photofinish system and go out on a 3 day course in belgium to study the software and hardware.
Anybody know anything about the job, is it interesting, is it difficult, personal experiences ?
Thanks

In my opinion, it’s the position of most responsibility at a meet. If you don’t handle pressure well, it may not be a good fit, because when things go wrong, it’s up to you to solve them.
The software (FinishLynx is what everyone around here uses) is pretty straight forward. I’d say the key part to this, is that the hardware setup isn’t difficult when everything is working well! Sometimes there will be issues in which the starting pistol does not trigger the system, which for sprints almost always requires a re-run and angry coaches/parents/meet directors, or there will be connection issues and you’ll be trying to figure out where the connection has failed.
The pay can be decent, depending on the market.
Good to hear from you Meistro Rainy
I hear ya on that, I think i’d be more nervous running the times than actually racing… I would def hate the pressure. I’d love to think that I am pressure proof but really when 10 people yell why things aren’t working I want to punch them all with a sledgehammer.
I will definitely consider this again O_O
I may have scared you off, but major problems don’t happen very often. Plus, you are usually protected from the general public’s wrath. While coaches/athletes/parents/meet directors get grumpy over re-runs, it’s usually attributed (correctly) to technical problems, and not timing operator error. That said, it’s still the timing systerm opreator who has to solve/fix the issue.
If you don’t mind I will check the local pay and PM you about it, see what you think of the pay per meet.
