Antique to host Olympic
fest regionals
Antique will host one of five Philippine Olympic Festival regional legs from Jan. 22-28.

Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco said during his recent visit in Bacolod City that Antique will hold the hostilities for the Visayas region. Lanao Del Norte will host the first divisional leg from Jan. 8-14, while the other POF regional events will be staged in Camarines Sur from Feb. 5-11, Ilocos Sur set Feb. 26-March 4 and the National Capital Region slated March 19-25.

The POC will hold the competitions in different regions because the development of athletes who will be the future of RP sports should not only come from Manila, Cojuangco said.

About 10,000 athletes and officials representing 30 disciplines, including 18 Olympic sports, are expected to join the five divisional legs with the winners advancing to the national finals in Nueva Ecija tentatively scheduled in April.

The events that will be played in the POF are athletics, baseball, table tennis, taekwondo, shooting, boxing, archery, wrestling, football, cycling, lawn tennis, judo, fencing, canoe-kayak, gymnastics and equestrian.

The non-Olympic sports calendared are dance sports, karatedo, sports climbing, muay thai, wushu, chess, sepak takraw, pencak silat, bowling, golf, powerlifting and arnis. *
