Unbelievable! So nice to have a new Canadian star who has proven twice that she can pull out ever faster performances when it counts! I haven’t been this excited since Donovan Bailey won the 96 Olympics!

Canadian sets championship and national record

March 7, 2004

Former Illinois track and field superstar Perdita Felicien won the 60-meter hurdles gold medal Sunday at the 2004 World Indoor Championships in Budapest, Hungary. The Pickering, Ontario native clocked 7.75s to edge American sprinting legend Gail Devers, who finished second at 7.78s.

Felicien’s time broke the championship record as well as her own Canadian national record, which had stood at 7.90s. The victory now makes Felicien the reigning world champion in the 60m hurdles and the 100m hurdles, which she won last August in Paris, France. This also marks the first time a Canadian woman won the 60m hurdle crown since 1995.

Felicien continues to train in Champaign for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece.
